Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Help with inscription in a prayer book?
« on: Friday 26 March 21 10:53 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all

My Grandfather was in the Royal Engineers, it would appear as a boy soldier. I’ve done a bit of digging previously and it would appear that his Army number is too late for WW1 which would make sense as he was born in 1901.

Any way, I’d appreciate it if anyone can decipher the prayer which appears in his Army Prayer book, the original of which is now stored at the Royal Engineers Museum.

I’ve got the following:

Lead not into Temptation
Leave us not when in
Temptation Mother Pure
Boy sapper Naylor
**************
heard (?) us two only******
**** the shadows flee
*********

Any ideas?

Hi all

I’m researching my Great Grandfather’s First World War service and would appreciate some help deciphering his records please.

It would appear he was a bit of a rascal when he joined up, I’m reading the record that he was AWOL on at least two occasions shortly after joining up and he was then transferred regiments. Could that be because of his tendency to disappear or was it rather just being subject to the whim of the Army and where men were required?

Can anyone read the final entry as to where he was sent? He was transferred from the York & Lancaster Regiment to the Lancashire Fusiliers.

Cheers

Matt

World War One / Silver War Badge look up request
« on: Saturday 12 November 11 11:34 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I took advantage of Ancestry's free WW1 records search last year, and found my G Grandfather had served in WW1 which no-one in the family knew about. I've found his medal card but I'm unsure whether he got a SWB as he suffered an 'accidental' gunshot wound to his foot. There is some debate in his pension records as to whether it was self inflicted or not..

Would anyone be able to do a look up and check for me please?

He was Albert BRIGGS regiment number 242106 with the Lancashire Fusiliers. He was discharged on 18/07/1918.

Many thanks  :)

An interesting article on the BBC website for those that haven't seen it. Has anyone else got a murder victim in their tree?

Hello friends

If anyone has the time, I'd appreciate it if my Dad could be given a smarten? I'm not after anything drastic, just any creases smoothed and the writing removed if at all possible.

I'd like to frame this picture which he had taken when he applied for a job with British Airways if at all possible, so any assistance will be greatly appreciated!

Hello folks

If someone has the time, I'd appreciate it if someone could have a go at the attached picture of my much missed Nannan? Is there any way of getting rid of the white spots? The photo is an old polaroid and the spots have developed with age.

Fingers crossed!

Thanks

Matt

Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / Baptism look up - Stapleton
« on: Friday 16 October 09 00:25 BST (UK)  »
Hi

If someone has the time, I'd appreciate a look up for the baptism of one Barbara STAPLETON please? By my reckoning she was born about 1834 in the Eastwood/Greasley area of Nottingham. Her Marriage certificate states that her father was called James Stapleton and he was a cord wainer, if that helps. Unfortunately I don't know Barbara's mother's details.

Thanks in advance

Matt

Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / Marriage look up please?
« on: Monday 12 October 09 21:07 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I'd appreciate a marriage look up if someone has the time?

I'm looking for the marriage of my GGG Grandfather John NAYLOR who was born approx 1812 in Greasley, Nottingham. I suspect he may have married an Amy, possibly Amy Burrows in or around 1831/32 at Greasley.

Could someone confirm or deny?

Many thanks,

Matt
