Glamorganshire / New to Welsh Research
« on: Monday 25 October 21 04:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi All
Wales is not my area of speciality so have a couple of general questions others may be able to answer.   Am looking for John JONES !!!!
1.  Child born 1906 in Tylorstown, Ystradyfodwg - if father was deceased would it say so on registration printout?  Generally I mean obviously no one can say for sure.
2.  Worked as Colliery Timberman - died circa 1906 to 1909 - is it likely there is a grave?  I mean obviously there is but would he have had a headstone given occupation?
3.  Would it have been reasonable to move from Tylorstown to Wattstown circa 1907?
4.  Are school records available for the Methyr Tydfil area around this time?
5.  Can anyone recommend a society to join for research in this area
Thank you for your time

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / 1891 Census decipher please
« on: Tuesday 29 October 19 06:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All
I have attached a page from 1891 English census. I cannot send the whole page as the file is too big but hopefully enough here to compare handwriting.  I am interested in the name second from bottom of the page. Ancestry transcribe as Mantson - Find my past transcribe as Marton.

Surname is Middleton - other details are "daughter - single - age 16 - Waitress - born Canning Town. Is it possible the name is Matilda ?

Any help appreciated
Thankyou

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / MARRIAGE DETAILS PLEASE
« on: Thursday 31 May 18 07:46 BST (UK)  »
Hi again super sleuths.  Another marriage entry question please.
I have William Henry MOYLE marrying Rose SMITH on 19 Feb 1878.  I am thinking the place is Weslyan Parsonage but not sure what the other words are in this box.  He is a bachelor born Ballarat.  She is a spinster born Ballarat.
I think is says "do hereby certify, that I have this day, at ? Weslyan Parsonage / ?? duly celebrated marriage between William Henry MOYLE, bachelor of Ballarat and Rose SMITH of Ballarat.  I think servant is meant to be inserted between William ... bachelor and Ballarat.  But what is inserted betweeen Rose and Ballarat.
Any suggestions appreciated.  Thank you
Melanie

Other Countries / India - National Archives - Prison Records Question
« on: Saturday 25 April 15 08:41 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone
Does anyone know if prison records are available at National Archives in India for "the Presidency" and for Calcutta Prison.  Circa 1860 - 1861.  And if they are how would one go about getting copies of them.
TIA
Melanie
