Can someone help me please?
William was on the 1841 census with his wife Jane. He was 30 and a mariner. He was transcribed as Collins. By the 1851 census his wife Jane was remarried with a 5month old baby, plus the children she had with William.
I have searched for Williams death as I know he was deceased by 1854 but I cant find it anywhere. If he had died at sea would his death not have been registered. I did find a William Collins death 1849 in Sunderland on the free bmd and when the certificate arrived it was the wrong one. This one was only 4 years old.
I am pulling my hair out at the mo, does anyone know if there would be a register of the ships he was on.
Would be grateful for any help
Regards Susan
