Durham / william colling
« on: Wednesday 05 November 08 10:20 GMT (UK)  »
Can someone help me please?
William was on the 1841 census with his wife Jane. He was 30 and a mariner.  He was transcribed as Collins.  By the 1851 census his wife Jane was remarried with a 5month old baby, plus the children she had with William.

I have searched for Williams death as I know he was deceased by 1854 but I cant find it anywhere.  If he had died at sea would his death not have been registered.  I did find a William Collins death 1849 in Sunderland on the free bmd and when the certificate arrived it was the wrong one.  This one was only 4 years old.

I am pulling my hair out at the mo, does anyone know if there would be a register of the ships he was on.

Would be grateful for any help

Regards Susan

Durham Lookup Requests / death lookup
« on: Wednesday 01 October 08 21:54 BST (UK)  »
I had a lot of help locating my g.g. grandparents a couple of years ago on this board. Somehow I don't seem to be able to find the record of William Collings death.  He and Jane were on the 1841 census and by the 1851 census she remarried as William had died about 1849 but I cant find out where I got these details from.  If someone could help me I would be grateful.  They lived in sunderland and on the 1841 census he was transcribed as Collin (I think) He was born about 1811
Anyhow he was a seaman and it would be interesting to know if he died at sea and How would I find out which ship he was on.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / census lookup for Adaway family
« on: Tuesday 08 May 07 22:38 BST (UK)  »
I would be most grateful if someone can do a census lookup for the years 1891 and 1901
William James Adaway born 1866, married Louisa Phipps, born 1871. They were married 1888. Would be interested to see who lived in the household. I think it will be the Croydon area.

Thank you

Northumberland Lookup Requests / 1901 census - james bell
« on: Sunday 19 November 06 20:24 GMT (UK)  »
On the 1901 census I have found who I think to be my g.g grandfather James Bell aged 76.
The details are that he was born about 1825 in Belford northumberland.
Census details are that he was in the parish of St Andrews Newcastle  household schedule number 304 and he was an inmate. Would anyone be able to find out where he was an inmate, workhouse, asylum or whatever. doesnt say where.  In his time he was a tailor and at the time of the census his wife was still alive. ~would appreciate any help.

Durham / Minorca, Sunderland?
« on: Sunday 17 September 06 18:51 BST (UK)  »
My g.g. grandfathers marriage certificate says his place of residence was Minorca. This has had me totally baffled and after hours spent searching I found a post on this message board about a family who lived at no. 16 Minorca, Sunderland.

My g.g. grandparents married in Sunderland in 1854 so would be interested to know if Minorca did actually exist there.
