Canada / Sgt Harold McMahon
« on: Tuesday 06 November 12 19:18 GMT (UK)  »
The following entry appeared in the Niagara Falls New York Gazette - Thursday September 25th 1947 regarding the marriage of my Grandfather, John McMahon, to Cora Cust.

"McMahon - Cust

The marriage of Mrs Cora Cust and Mr John McMahon was recently solemnized at Our Lady of Lebanon.
Bride was given in marriage by her nephew Mr Harold McMahon of Barrie. Ontario."

Harold McMahon is not related to John McMahon.

There was another mention of Harold in the Niagara Falls New York Gazette on Wednesday November 1st 1944.

"Sergeant Harold McMahon and Mrs. McMahon left last night for Camp Gordon, Ont, after spending Sergeant McMahon's ten-day leave with his aunt, Mrs. Cora Cust of Memorial Parkway."

The Camp's name is actually, Camp Borden which is near Barrie, Ontario.  I am looking for information regarding Sgt Harold McMahon such as his date and place of birth.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was wondering if anyone could improve the quality of this picture.  I am trying to identify the tartan worn by the two youngest members in the picture as it may give me some hint as to which of the two Blair families that I come from.

I would like to know if this picture can be restored.  I am a relatively new user and have been extremely impressed by the work that has been done on this site.  I could only scan this picture at 200 ppi.  I am still trying to find out how to increase the resolution to 300 ppi on my scanner.  This is a picture of my wife's aunt who is deceased.  Many thanks for any help.

Lanarkshire / Great Hamilton Street Reformed Presbyterian Church, Glasgow
« on: Sunday 26 August 12 03:39 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to determine if my GGGF was born in Glasgow or elsewhere.  Some of his children and his grandchildren were christened at Great Hamilton Street Reformed Presbyterian Church in Glasgow since he moved around between Polmont, Kirkintilloch, Strathblane and Glasgow as he was a school teacher.  His name was John Blair and he  married Agnes Campbell in 1813 in Strathblane.  According to the OPR they were married by Mr. John McMillan, Reformed Minister of Stirling and banns were announced in both Glasgow and Strathblane.  If anyone could tell me how I could go about confirming if he was baptized at Great Hamilton Street Reformed Presbyterian Church in Glasgow, I would appreciate it greatly or if someone has him in their line, I would like to hear from you.

I am trying to identify the tartan worn by the people in this picture.  Does anyone recognize it?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  It has been suggested that it is a Seaforth Highlanders tartan.  I have zipped the picture.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Blair Tartan
« on: Saturday 18 August 12 00:42 BST (UK)  »
Is it possible to tell which of the two major Blair families that I am from by the tartan that my father is wearing in the attachment?
I am attaching only one family member with the kilt on, as otherwise the photo is too big to send.    Any help is greatly appreciated.
