Cheshire / Macclesfield, Rainow Road mystery
« on: Sunday 25 September 16 22:50 BST (UK)  »
Hey there, my brother lives in a house on rainow road and I know it dates back to the 1880's. I'm interested in finding out who lived there in the census's only thing is i cant find the road on there!!
I've searched high and low as to whether rainow road was named something else but can't find anything. I've even gone through all the other roads census's around rainow road in hopes that it'll pop up somewhere.

Can anyone shed any light on this? it's considered higher hurdsfield but that doesn't help my search either :(

Warwickshire / Reasons for not being in the first or second world war??
« on: Friday 09 September 16 23:53 BST (UK)  »
Hi there, I was watching who do you think you are? this morning, and it made me realise that none of my direct ancestors from my mom's side were involved in either of the wars.
So it made me wonder why they were not drafted, their age and occupation would not have stopped them. I know some people lied to get out of duty but I can't imagine each one of them doing that.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is?? my dad's maternal side were all in the navy, including the women, and his paternal side worked in factories helping the war effort, but my mom's side zilch.

Thank you!

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / 53 Aylesford Street, Coventry.
« on: Monday 14 September 15 22:15 BST (UK)  »
Hi there, I have been trying to find out who my great granddad is, I have no name or place/year of birth for him. I ordered my granddads birth cert and there's no name under father but the address is 53 Aylesford Road, Coventry.
I was hoping somebody would be able to help me find some sort of record as to who was living at this address with my granddad at his time of birth in 1946. His mother was Lily, so I'm only looking for a male.
If anyone can help me I'd be eternally grateful, I have been searching for years with no luck.

Thank you.

Hi there, I have been trying to find a list of american bases in Coventry for a while now, I have a suspicion that my great grandfather might have been American. Does anyone know where I can get these details from??

I have been searching for him for years now and am starting to lose hope that I'll ever find him.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Barnsdall and Knight, Sheffield.
« on: Tuesday 02 April 13 12:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi, so I'm looking up my sister in laws family on ancestry and I've come across a problem. I have a Fred Knight who married a Margeret Nixon in 1949 in Sheffield. I've looked up his birth index and it says he was born in 1917, Sheffield, to a Barnsdall.
So i looked up a marriage between a knight and barnsdall and all i can find is a 1872 marriage, Frederick J Knight and Rhoda Barnsdall. The time difference is very off as, lets say she was 20 when they married, that would mean she was over 60 when having Fred, which obviously isn't possible. Theres also a Frank Knight that was born in 1913 i think, to the same mother.
Also if you look up these people in any of the census, you can't find them, the only Rhoda i can find is one born in 1882 which would make sense to having the children in 1913 and 1917 but why is the marriage shown in 1872.
Also the 1872 marriage is shown with information that is given on marriage indexes after 1915. so im quite confused and im hoping someone can help me.

Shropshire / Marriage between Fred. Norman & Eliza
« on: Sunday 02 December 12 00:51 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, i ordered a birth cert. of george william norman as i couldn't find a marriage cert between his parents and wanted to know his mothers maiden name. i've received the cert. but her surname is Badghnell. I've never heard of this surname and nothing comes up when i google it, nothing comes up when i search for her under that name either.

with the info i have on her she was born in shrewsbury, in 1841. their first born, george william was born in wrexham in wales in 1866 but in the 1871 census they are in shropshire, but the ones after that are in wrexham again. she died in 1886 in wrexham.

i was just wondering if anyone could suggest any surnames that it could be, whether they've misspelled it or if it's just a very rare surname.

it'd be very much appreciated as i've paid for the cert. but haven't got any further with the info!

thanks in advance.

Devon / Frederick William & Ellen May
« on: Thursday 27 September 12 14:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I've just found my ancestors Frederick William May and his wife, Ellen. But I can only find them in the 1881 census.
It states he is from Lifton and born in 1859 and she was born in Devonport in 1860. I can't find them on any other census, there seems to be another Frederick and Ellen May on there but she's born a few years earlier which isn't her.

He died in 1905 and worked with boilers. The only known child I know he had was Gertrude May who was born in 1895.

Any help would be appreciated.

Devon / Gertrude Mary May
« on: Thursday 23 August 12 00:10 BST (UK)  »
hello, my ancestor Gertrude Mary May, was born in Stoke Damerel, Devon in 1895.

When i try to research her on the 1901 census two gertrudes come up. one with parents william and elizabeth (this is not her i know this for certain) and a gertrude with father frederick and mother ellen. but she was born in 1898 so thats 3 years off. i have her marriage cert. to alfred bleasdale andrew in 1914 saying her father was called frederick william may, occupation chief engine room artificer and already deceased.
i've found a will index for a person with that name, died in 1905 in plymouth and left everything to his spouse ellen but when i look at the death index he was born in 1860. also on the 1901 census there are two other children, maud and john, but when i research both of them they can't be found.

i also can't find a marriage index for frederick william may to an ellen.

i would really appreciate it if someone could help me as it's been something i've spent alot of time on but with no outcome.
thanks in advance.
