Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Italian Town Name?
« on: Wednesday 04 October 23 14:31 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone make out this town name? This family has consistently been from Orsogna so it was surprising to see anything else in a record. #100 Niccolo d'Angelo, son of Domenico and Cecilia.

Europe / Poland: Legitimate Reason For Multiple Illegitimate Children?
« on: Thursday 23 March 23 16:33 GMT (UK)  »
Hiya! I've been looking into a relative named Rozalia Kostecka. She was from Spieszyn, Poland. She was married to Grzegorz Wiszniewski then died in 1919. Her death certificate doesn't list any parents and i've been unable to find a marriage record yet. Just a few years ago, Spieszyn had no records online so i'm ecstatic for what is available now. Looking into the Kostecki families in Rudka revealed just one having children around the time of Rozalia's birth in 1855. Jan Kostecki and Elzbieta Wasilewska. I thought this was promising since they only had two children born 1859 and 1861, until i looked into Elzbieta on her own. She had many illegitimate children before having the two with Jan, none of them being a daughter named Rozalia. So while i no longer believe this is Rozalia's family, unless her husband was wrong about her birth date and she came after 1862 when the records end, i am very much interested in Elzbieta's reasoning for having so many illegitimate children. Could Jan have been the father of all her children? Could they have not been allowed to marry for some reason? Different religions maybe? There are a lot of records missing so it will probably have to wait a few more years, but curious if anyone has a guess? Also, Elzbieta herself was illegitimate as there is a Katarzyna Wasilewska having multiple illegitimate children as well.

I'm reading a Llanrwst baptism record for an ancestor and can't seem to decipher a word. I'm not sure if it's another town, a street, or something else. Any help would be much appreciated!

Europe / Russia/Ukraine place names help
« on: Thursday 18 August 16 15:46 BST (UK)  »
Hey everyone! Hope your week is going smoothly ;D

I'm researching my brother's family. Specifically Leib Cherwinsky. He left Hamburg August 9, 1913 and arrived August 20, 1913 in NY. I know everything about him in America, but having trouble placing him in Russia/Ukraine. Most of his documents state he was born in Nikolaev which i assumed was Mykolaiv. Today i realized there was more than one Nikolaev in the Ukraine. So i'm posting the pictures of various documents that list alternative birth locations with the hope that someone can either decipher the writing or recognize the area itself. Ive also included his brother Morris's records for reference. Additional information: Their father's name was Abraham Judah. Thanks!

Edited to add: The second picture lists Dubry, but i have no idea where that is.

Warwickshire / Moses Wright m. Hannah
« on: Monday 23 September 13 19:09 BST (UK)  »
Good afternoon everyone! I've hit a bit of a brick wall and was wondering if anyone has some free time to look at this couple. Moses Wright and Hannah from Handsworth had 10 children that i've found so far:

Herbert Brown Wright b 21 October 1805 Deritend c 5 January 1806 St John The Baptist (m. Ann Homer)
Elizabeth Wright b ? d 25 February 1810 Handsworth St Mary
Ann Brown Wright b 14 July 1811 Birmingham c 7 October 1811 St Philip (m. Edward Smith)
Edwin Wright b 1813?
Edward Brown Wright b 1 August 1815 Birmingham c 21 August 1815 St Philip (m. Eliza Marvin)
Emma Brown Wright b ? Deritend c 5 April 1817 St John The Baptist
William Brown Wright b 19 December 1818 Birmingham c 11 January 1819 St Philip (m. Margaret Armstrong)
Arthur Brown Wright b 29 January 1821 Birmingham c 20 February 1821 St Philip (m. Mary Van Hise)
Sophia b 22 January 1824? (m. Reuben Runyon)
Frederick b 18 November 1825? (m. Mary Armstrong)

Hannah and some of her children came to New Jersey, United States on 1 June 1833. Moses can only be found on the 1840 US Census, no passenger lists or other censuses so far. I haven't been able to find a marriage record for Moses and Hannah. There is one that takes place 27 May 1829 in Birmingham, St Martin, but that could just be a weird coincidence. Any ideas?

Happy Friday! I'm looking for anyone with access to the Llaneilian parish records. Specifically for Owen Michael, buried September 1, 1785. He died just three years after getting married and his bond doesn't reveal much about him. I don't even have his occupation. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks! Have a great weekend ;D

Extra info just in case:
Owen Michael married Margaret Hughes on February 27, 1782 in Llaneugrad, Anglesey, Wales.
