Norfolk / George and Smith families Great Yarmouth
« on: Wednesday 07 September 11 15:02 BST (UK)  »
I've been trying to trace my nan's side of the family but have been given extremely little information so I'm really struggling. I can't find any information at all on her grandparents, but they both lived in Great Yarmouth.

Her father was James William Smith (1904 - 1967). My nan has told me her grandmother was Julie (I believe her dates are roughly 1872 - 1954) and he had sisters Alice, Lily and May. However, the only thing I'm absolutely sure of is James and his dates. I've searched the 1911 census and can't find anything that fits. I do believe at some point in life Julie lived on Row 8 in Great Yarmouth.

Her mother was Annie Elizabeth George (1907 - 1984). She had a brother Arthur who died in WWI, a sister Alice and a brother Roney (a nickname I think). But I just can't find anything concrete, no census records of either families to give me a clue to continue this line. Can anyone help?

Europe / Jewish family in Poland/Russia?
« on: Tuesday 06 September 11 23:32 BST (UK)  »
I've been tracing my family tree and found a Jewish branch of it. My great great grandmother's brother married a Harriet Salkind who I've managed to trace back. Her paternal grandparents were Simon Salkind and Hannah Harris (1815 - 1869). Hannah who I believe came to England from Poland or Russia, lived in Norfolk, England once she moved here. I'm interested in finding out whether anyone else is related to her or can give me some information about her family in Europe? Or if not, a link to somewhere I can search for the info myself?

Thanks :)

Norfolk / Codling/Sayer family - Jews?
« on: Tuesday 06 September 11 09:13 BST (UK)  »
Hello

Been doing research in my family tree and I was wondering if anyone had any information or could point me in the right direction. I've been investigating my paternal great grandmother's side, her name was Ivy Ruth Codling of Norwich (she married Cyril Herbert Smith) and apparently she once told my grandad that there was some Jewish family members (on her side) and that they were in Europe and had been presumably killed in WWII. We're interested in knowing who they were and what happened to them but have no idea how exactly they may have been related to Ivy. I think they were living in France but I'm not 100% on that.

Ivy's parents were Arthur Cornelius N Codling (1875 - 1945) and Ellen Henrietta Sayer (1876 - 1948) and I guess it could be on either side, though I feel more inclined to say it was on her mother's side. Last night I saw my grand aunt who also said that she knew of a Jewess in the family in Norwich so I guess there is someone but I just don't know where to look right now!

Does anyone have any information?
