Armed Forces / Orkney and Shetland Defence Force
« on: Sunday 04 June 23 01:59 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find information about Ron Douglas who was posted to the Orkney and Shetland Defence Force c1943-1948.  I believe that he might have been also posted to Kent/Sussex during the War, possibly in the Royal Artillery guarding the air force bases during the War.  I think that he had Welsh parentage.  Born c 1920.

London and Middlesex / Ellen Clayton nee Baglin
« on: Saturday 10 September 22 06:44 BST (UK)  »
I have been trying to find the death record of Ellen Clayton, born 1832 Bath, Somerset, lived in London with her family, husband Thomas Clayton and children from about 1838 to last known record the 1891 census.  Both Ellen and Thomas were alive at this census but neither can be found on the 1901 or 1911 census, so I presume that they died between 1891 and 1901.  I have four possibilities for the death of Ellen Clayton:  1895, Islington, 1910 Islington, 1893 Brompton Cemetery, March 1893 Wandsworth.  I would like to purchase her death certificate but don't know how to check which Ellen Clayton is my great-great-grandmother before purchasing.  Is there any way to confirm a death without having to buy several certificates which may be incorrect?  I would really appreciate help with this.

England / Annie Clayton
« on: Thursday 31 May 18 04:27 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find an Annie Clayton (also went by Elizabeth Ann Parker and Elizabeth Ann Clayton-Parker) who emigrated to the US (probably Boston) in 1891.  She was married to George Parker but travelled alone.  She went to New York and had a daughter Ada M Parker born Kings New York 21 December 1891.  Her husband emigrated some time later, in 1893.  They had a son, George Parker, born late 1894.

I would like to find Annie's arrival in the US, and if possible, departure from the UK, and if she was travelling with any other family member.  Also, what happened to her children as on the 1900 US Census, she was divorced, had had 5 children (2 died in the UK and 1 in the US - Constance Parker) was boarding with the Harell family and didn't appear to have her children with her.  I know that Ada went on to marry and had an adopted surname of Hill (Ada Hill Parker, or Parker Hill).

Any help much appreciated.  :D

United States of America / George Parker
« on: Monday 12 June 17 01:11 BST (UK)  »
I have a record of George Parker, born Kings, NY, on 26 November 1894 to George Parker and Elisabeth Ann Clayton.  George and Elisabeth Ann apparently divorced by the 1900 US census and George had a new wife, Florence, and child living in NY.  Elisabeth Ann was living with the Harell family and called herself 'Annie Clayton'.  She had 2 living children, not with her.  One was George, the other was Ada Marion Parker Hill.  I have traced Ada Marion but would appreciate help in finding more about her son, George.  He may have been adopted or fostered or in an orphanage.  I have no records for him after his birth.

I also do not know what happened to Elisabeth Ann Parker (Annie Clayton) after the 1900 census.

Family History Beginners Board / Elizabeth Ann Clayton
« on: Saturday 10 December 16 01:12 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help me with a passenger look-up please?  Elizabeth Ann Parker (nee Clayton) emigrated from the UK to the USA around 1892-1893.  Her husband, George Parker, emigrated apparently later on The Teutonic from Liverpool to New York, New York, arriving 18 October 1893.
George Parker, age 24 years and 11 months, married, Druggist, native country England, intended destination Brooklyn.  He had one piece of baggage.  He was intending to stay permanently.

Elizabeth Ann appears on the 1900 census living in New York with the Harell family.  She calls herself Annie Clayton, divorced, 5 children, 2 living.  These children are not living with her on the census. She had two children in England before she emigrated. Both died as infants.  She then had 2 children in the US.  George Parker born Brooklyn, 1894 (stated as her fourth child), and Constance Parker born 1896 Brooklyn, died 1898.  Did she emigrate with the third child, born in the UK?  Was she expecting when she emigrated and was the third child born in 1893 in the USA?

Any help would be much appreciated.  :)

Family History Beginners Board / Will of John Rudach
« on: Wednesday 26 October 16 05:23 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help with the Will of John Rudach, April 1766, London.  Place - Foreign Parts.

It may be the Will of my ancestor as he was a soldier with no fixed home base and may have made this Will either when stationed abroad or when in London after returning from abroad.  He was born in Marnoch, Banffshire in April 1732 to George Rudach.  He later married and had a daughter, Margaret Ruddock/Riddoch, apparently born Petty, Inverness around 1780.  The spelling of the surname changed at some point after John's birth and Margaret was always known as Riddoch until she married John McManus and settled in Elgin, Morayshire.

Any tips, help or advice would be much appreciated!

London and Middlesex / Meechan family
« on: Wednesday 02 March 16 03:14 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help me to identify whether Patrick and Theresa Meechan, born St Pancras 1930 (twins) were the children of Linda Marion Clayton and William Meechan?  Were they baptised, and if so, where could I find the parish record?

All help gratefully received.

United States of America / PARKER
« on: Wednesday 06 January 16 00:25 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find a child born (in the UK, at sea, or in New York) to George Parker and Elizabeth Ann Clayton Parker 1891 to 1898.  The children that I have found so far are:
Child 1:  George Thomas Parker born 5 Aug 1889 London, UK, died as an infant
Child 2: Ada Ellen Parker born 6 Aug 1890 London, UK died as an infant
Child 3: Born?  lived to 1900 census apparently
Child 4:  George Parker born 1894, lived at least to 1900 census apparently
Child 5:  Constance Parker born 1896 died May1898 Kings, NY

On George Parker's birth certificate, it states that he is the 4th child of George and Elizabeth Ann Clayton Parker.

Elizabeth Ann (also known as Annie) Clayton Parker emigrated in 1891-1893, separately from her husband George, from England to New York.  I have yet to find her emigration record.  Her husband, George, emigrated in October 1893, England to New York on the "Teutonic".

In the 1900 census, Annie Clayton is divorced, working as a saleswoman, and living with the Harell family.  She doesn't have any children with her but says that she has had 5 children, 2 of whom are still living.  Her husband George remarried Florence Schmitz on 25 Sept 1897 and went on to have several children.  He stated on his marriage certificate that it was his first marriage when it was his second.

I cannot locate the two living children of George Parker and Elizabeth Ann Clayton on any census, but both were apparently alive in 1900 according to Annie Clayton's 1900 census record.

Any information or advice on the missing child's birth, and what happened to Annie Clayton and her two living children after 1900 would be much appreciated.

Midlothian / McManus in 1901 census
« on: Tuesday 07 May 13 13:58 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for Margaret McManus born Aberdeen 1864 and her daughter, Jane (Jean) Law McManus born Edinburgh 1889 in the 1901 census.  They are on the 1891 census living at 299 St Leonard's Hill, Edinburgh (with Margaret Findlay McManus and Alexander McManus) then they disappear.  Margaret McManus reappears on the 1911 census living at 2 Beaumont Place, Edinburgh, domestic cook, born Aberdeen living with her son, Alexander McManus born Edinburgh 1885.  Her husband, George McManus, had deserted the family many years before and went to live near Newcastle.
Can anyone help me please to find Margaret McManus and Jane Law McManus on the 1901 census?  I know that Jane Law McManus went to school in Aberdeen at some time in her early years and later trained as a tailor.  I have also not been able to trace the marriage of Jane Law McManus (also called Jean) to Hans Erich Lichtenfeld anywhere but believe the marriage date was 1 May 1912.
