Canada / Tyrrell family in Canada
« on: Wednesday 08 October 14 18:39 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone have more luck than me in tracing any details about this family?

John Thomas Hayes TYRRELL married Julia Jennings, probably about 1840 and probably in Dublin. They were definately Irish. Three daughters, Kathleen, Nora and Ellen were all born in Ireland, sons John and James were born in Canda and the birthplace of two other daughters, Marion and Sophie is unknown.

The family believe, although I haven't found any evidence to support this, that the family were passengers on a ship called The Hyathia and landed on Port Ryde Island, Nova Scotia, Canada, probably about 1850/55.  So far I haven't even been able to find a record of the ship!

I'm having difficulty finding any documentary evidence about this family so anything that anyone can come up with would be much appreciated.

FH Documents and Artefacts / Is anyone researching the Leathes family?
« on: Friday 05 August 11 18:37 BST (UK)  »
Sorting out some paperwork at my mother's house the other day I came across a newspaper cutting from the Reading Mercury/Oxford Gazette from September 1938 entitled 'Dorchester Abbey Wedding. Miss I M de M Leathes married. A quiet ceremony.'

The article gives a very detailed account of the wedding between Ivy Margaret de Mussenden Leathes and George Anthony Wright.

I've only looked into this very briefly but it looks as if de Mussenden is a family name, passed down through the generations. I also discovered that the bride's brother, at the time Captain R C de M Leathes went on to become a Major General with a glittering military career in the Marines.

Is anyone researching this family? If so I'd be more than happy to pass on this article as it seems too full of intricate details to go to waste.
