Northamptonshire / Peggs in Northants
« on: Tuesday 07 January 14 18:12 GMT (UK)  »
I am very interested in finding out the distribution of people with the Pegg (Peggs, Pegge) surname in Northants, especially in the 17th and 18th centuries(or earlier). My paper trail ends in nearby Cambs in 1760.  I would really appreciate any assistance in finding Pegg families. Regards David Pegg

Suffolk / Distribution of Pegg families in Suffolk between 1650-1800
« on: Tuesday 07 January 14 17:55 GMT (UK)  »
I am very interested in finding out if there were any people with the Pegg(Peggs, Pegge) surname in Suffolk in the 17th and 18th centuries (or before). If you know of any, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. I am wondering how the Peggs were distributed across the eastern midlands. My paper trail ends in 1760 in Cambs, so Suffolk towns near the Suffolk-Cambs border would be particularly interesting. Regards David Pegg

Cornwall / Rosina JOHNS of Breage
« on: Thursday 20 December 12 14:09 GMT (UK)  »
I would appreciate any help i coud get in finding the parents of Rosina Johns(1831-1905) of Breage. She married John Meager in 1849 (Free BMD) in the Helston Registration District. On subsequent censuses her place of birth is listed as Breage. The 1841 census listed a Roseina Johns in the Breage household of William and Dorcase Johns. She was 10 yrs, which would give her a birthdate of c1831. However, i could not find her baptism listing in the Breage Parish Records, even though those of her siblings from the 1841 census were there. I also could not find a listing of the 1849 marriage in the Breage Records. I did find a listing of the birth of a Roseina Adelaide Johns in the Helston Records in 1831. Her parents were listed as Samuel and Sara Johns. He was a Helston carpenter. I could not find the household of Samuel Johns of Helston in the 1841 census.Do you think the Roseina Johns listed in the Breage 1841 census in the household of William Johns is the same person whose father is listed as Samuel Johns in the Helston birth record? Unfortunately, the Breage 1841 census doesn't say whether Roseina is a daughter. Could she have been visiting Breage at the time of the census? It is interesting to note that the spelling of Roseina is on both the birth and 1841 census records. It appears to have been changed to Rosina at the time of the 1849 marriage. I would really appreciate any suggestions on how to find out who her parents were. Regards, David

Cornwall / Emma Pascoe from Breage
« on: Friday 06 July 12 18:14 BST (UK)  »
I would appreciate any comments or suggestions in my quest to find out what happened to Emma Pascoe and her father, Samuel Pascoe. Emma was born in 1856. I think it was in Breage but the baptism is not listed in the Breage parish records. Her parents were Samuel and Ann Johns. Both were born in 1818, he in Sithney and her in Breage. They were married in Breage in 1839. All three appeared on the 1861 census. Samuel was a copper miner who emigrated to Calumet, Mich, USA in 1866 or 67 with his family. Emma was on the passenger list. Samuel and Ann appeared on the 1870 US census. Emma, however, was missing. She re-appeared again in Cornwall when she married a William Pascoe (same surname) in Helston in 1873. William died in 1904 in Helston but i couldn't find a death/burial record for Emma. I would also like to know when Emma returned to Cornwall and if her parents died in the US or did they return to Cornwall later. I did see an Ann Pascoe on the 1891 census of Canada. She was listed as a 73 year old widow living in Hastings West, ONT. I wonder if Samuel died in US or Canada. Like to hear from anybody that could help solve this mystery. David

England / Pegg Family in the eastern Midlands
« on: Monday 02 July 12 20:12 BST (UK)  »
My recent DNA genealogy results from a Pegg surname project indicates that my paternal lineage ultimately leads back to Derbyshire. One Pegg member of the surname project has a paper trail back to Derbyshire in 1508 and my haplotype is close to his. I have come to a dead end on the paper trail in Swavesey, Cambridgeshire with a marriage in 1760. I am unable to find a birth/baptism for the groom. I am interested in contacting people who had ancestors in Cambs and surrounding counties around this time. It seems there is a cluster of Peggs in East Anglia and Yorks. It would be very nice to try to see how these eastern Midland Peggs spread out from Derbyshire. Was it by slow diffusion or did historical events such as the civil war or a pandemic play a role? I would really appreciate any comments or suggestions. By the way, the DNA test showed I am in the E-haplogroup, which represent less than 1% of the present British population. There is quite a lot of interest within the group in how this cluster of people first immigrated to England.  DJP

United States of America / Father of William Hezekiah Lee(1776-1848)
« on: Tuesday 14 February 12 21:10 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to trace the ancestors of Rachel Elina Lee (1832-1906) who lived in TN. Her father appears to be Augustine Lee (1790-1848). His father seems to be William Hezekiah Lee (1776-1848). It appears he moved from NC to TN. WZ Lee's father has been difficult to track down. There seem to be at least two candidates. One is John Willoughby Lee (1750-1821). Another Family Tree gives JW Lee (1764-1824). He married Fanny Cryer in NC in 1786 but was from MD. His father appears to be William Lee (1743-1795). JW Lee does appear as a child on several of the Family Trees. The (1750-1821) life span can't be right since the father would be too young at the son's birth. Maybe one of the birth dates are incorrect? Another possible candidate  for the father of William Hezekiah Lee is John Lee (1746-1788). However, WZ Lee doesn't appear on the list of children on any of the Family Trees involving John Lee that are public on Ancestry.com. As you can see, this is confusing. I'd really appreciate any help or comments that might help me solve this matter.

I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone that might know of his possible birth place. Regards David

Norfolk / The Peggs in Norfolk
« on: Saturday 10 December 11 13:50 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to trace the birth place of a William Peggs. He was married in Swavesey, Cambs in 1760 and died there in 1801 at age 65. This would make his birth date around 1736. He wasn't born in Swavesy or anywhere else in Cambs, according to the Cambs baptism index. He also doesn't seem to come from town in nearby Hunts. I have seen that there were quite a few Pegg families in Norfolk at this time. I would greatly appreciate any help finding the birth place of a William Peggs ( born c1736).
Thanks, David
