Cork / Barry Family
« on: Monday 30 January 12 01:00 GMT (UK)  »
My gg grand father ( Richard James Barry) was born in Ballydehob, Schull/Skull in SW Cork abt 1840.  R.J.'s  parents were David Barry and Sarah Roberts. I believe he had 3 sisters and 1 brother that I know off, Mary 1838, Julia 1842, Margaret 1844 and David 1846.

David may have been born around 1815 and married Sarah 1836. Sarah may have been born abt 1810. Both in Schull/Skull

R.J. migrated to Australia sometime in the 1860's.

I would be interested to know if any Barry's, or descendants still live in the area. Or alternatively what happened.

Further to my previous post I have found other Barry's from Ballydehob born about the same time and still residing there in 1901/1911

Richard James was born abt 1840/1841

Bridget Barry born abt 1851

John Barry born abt 1853

John married Maria (don't have her maiden name) and had 10 or more children, the eldest John born about 1885 and the youngest Daniel born about 1897.

This may be of help.

I am looking for information on Richard James Barry born about 1840/1841 in Ballydehob, County Cork. Father David Barry (saddler/merchant) and Sarah Roberts.

There may be a connection with the Earl of Barrymore as we have handed down to us a silver fork and spoon with the earls crest on the each handle.  I would be pleased to hear from those also researching this linage

Hi.

Some time back I was making some enquiries in regards to RJ and his parents David Barry and Sarah Roberts. I was waiting on some certificates.

These have now arrived and I find RJ was born Ballydehob Cork Ireland.

I would like to thank those that have replied to my previous posts, but it appears I have to rethink and review.

I have sent a post to the relative board in Ireland and again thank everyone who replied for their assistance.

Regards
Colin Barry

Hi my name is Colin Barry and RJ is my great great grandfather. He was born in Ballydehob Cork Ireland about 1841. Father David Barry and Mother Sarah Roberts. David Barry's listed occupation "Merchant"

I have RJ's Australian mariage certificate and death certificate.

On the dates I guess he would have migrated to Australia somewhere around 1860- 1863.  I can't find any record of his parents comming to Australia.

I can find little if any reference to his birth. I further understand additional records from Cork were recently added to the network.

RJ married Alice Murphy, who also migrated to Australia somewhere around the same time. Her parents were Peter Murphy and Sarah Trayner and was born in Belfast, Ireland.

I would appreciate and help you can give me.

Lancashire / David Barry Sarah Roberts

Does anyone know anything about my great great great grandparents.

David Barry and Sarah Roberts, both born around 1820/1821. They had a son Richard James Barry who migrated to Australia in approx 1860.

Both married in 1842 in Greater Boughton Cheshire however their surnames names were not transcribed on the same page. I hoping it was a mistake.

According to 1851/1861 census Mr and Mrs David and Sarah Barry lived in Liverpool Lancashire.

Their son Richard James was born in 1841/1842. There is a birth transcription recorded in Liverpool in 1842. 1851 census has a 9 year old Richard attending the Industrial School at "Walton on the Hill" Liverpool. It may be the same person.

Any assistance would be appreciated

Colin Barry ???

I am trying to trace my great great grandfather, Richard James Barry who migrated to Australia around 1860, married an Australian girl in 1865, settling in Toowoomba Qld.

Richard James Barry is or Irish heritage, father born in Ireland, but after that things have gone cold.

I believe his father (David Barry) was born in Cork Ireland to a David Barry snr and Ellen Halfpenny. A lack of Irish evidence would suggest they migrated to England when David jnr was approx 20 years of age, with David moving out and living in a flat? in Chester, Cheshire. The Roberts family also come from Cheshire and there is evidence that a Sarah Roberts also lived in a flat? at that time.

The reason I mentioned Sarah Roberts is because Richard's parents are listed on Australian documents as David Barry and Sarah Roberts, however I can't find any record of marriage.  Records do indicate that a David Barry did marry a Sarah _____ , but not Sarah Roberts (info from ancestry.com).

From Richard James Barry's Australian records, I can put his birth sometime around 25/3/1841 and 5/9/1841. 3 births occurred in Whitechaple London at that time:-
March 1841 transcribed by "Jeff Colman" 130756 page 513
March 1841 transcribed by "Davidcheek" remains anonymous page 313
Sept   1841 transcribed by " Heather French" 44472 Page 520

1851 census has a Richard Barry listed as a scholar at an "industrial school" in the parish of Liverpool. Richard's age at the time was approx 9.

1851/1861 census also had David and Sarah Barry living in the Parish of Liverpool.

There is no record of Richard James Barry on the 1861 census and as such may have left for Australia prior to that date.

Am I in the right place looking in England for answers?
Did David Barry and Sarah Roberts marry? and when?
Or did David Barry and Sarah Roberts have an affair?
Was Richard James Barry born out of wedlock?
What does "Davidcheek" remains anonymous mean?
Was Richard James Barry placed in an industrial school?
And if so could he have been placed in the industrial school to keep his birth secret? (born out of wedlock).

I would appreciate any help I can get.
