G'Day Aussies

I'm looking for ideas and sources to search for ship comings and goings to Australian ports between 1860-1900 - I am aware of http://trove.nla.gov.au/ and have had some success there.

Just wondering are there any other digitised records available that I may have missed.

Regards from Ireland

Ireland / Seaman's Certificates
« on: Wednesday 27 November 13 12:43 GMT (UK)  »
Not sure what forum this one belongs in so apologies.

I've gotten ahold of a number of certificates for a merchant navy ancestor which shows his progression up the ranks from mate to master.  However there are 2 certificates for him, 3 years apart, for the same rank of First Mate.  My question is could a certificate be taken from you or could you be "demoted" in rank (and hence lose a certificate) if something happened  ?

any idea where I could find more about certificates from the board of trade ?

Cork / Bantry records
« on: Monday 26 August 13 12:02 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I'm wondering can anyone point me in the right direction of Bantry birth and marriage records from later than 1880 - I can see from the Irish Times listings of records that they seem to stop at this time.
Where would I get church records from 1880-1900 ?  Were they destroyed ?
Thanks

Kildare / The Kearneys of Maynooth
« on: Friday 11 May 12 16:03 BST (UK)  »
hi

I am a descendant of the Kearneys of Maynooth - it seems it was quite a popular surname in the area during the 1800s ...

Would love to know more about John (b.1822, Maynooth) & Ellen Kearney (nee Martin, b.1823, Maynooth) my gr.gr.gr.grandparents - or any other forebears on either side, some of whose names I know.

Any descendants out there ?
cheers   ;D

Wexford / Mannington Breen
« on: Friday 11 May 12 11:38 BST (UK)  »
hi folks
Have come across a rather unusually named gr.gr.gr.uncle in my research and wonder does anyone know more about him or even the name.

Mannington Breen, b. Churchtown, the Hook, Wexford in 1823 to John and Johanna Breen (Ryan).  All other brothers and sisters had "normal" names (James, Margaret etc.) but this one has stoked my interest ...

Ring any bells with anyone ?

Also, the entire record entry is in Latin so am wondering is 'Mannington' simply a translated entry of a more orthodox Christian name that the priest at the time 'thought' was the equivalent.

cheers  ;D
