Lancashire / Looking for Jack Davis (b., Blackpool), s.o. Mabel Fish
« on: Sunday 04 May 14 11:45 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to find Jack Davis, born in Blackpool in 1940,s to Herbert Hickman Stanley Davis and Mabel Fish. He would be my mother's second cousin. I'm hoping he might have known my late grandfather, Bertram Fish, who used to visit a mysterious cousin Betty Fish in Blackpool; I think she may have been the sister of Mabel Fish.

Any help much appreciated!

Lancashire Lookup Requests / St Leonard Middleton, 1844 - marriage of John Bowler
« on: Wednesday 19 December 12 17:31 GMT (UK)  »
John Bowler, by 3x great grandfather, married Jane in 1844 at St Leonard in Middleton. I think he died in 1847, as there is an entry at lancashirebmd.org.uk which gives his age as 1845. Jane remarried in 1850.

Confusingly, Jane's maiden name is record in some places as Holloway, others as Harvey, and in the lancashirebmd.org.uk as a combination of both. In her subsequent marriage she gave her father's name as Michael Holloway.

I wonder if there is a parish record for this marriage which might shed light on this? Any help greatly appreciated.

Leicestershire Lookup Requests / Eliza CHAMBERLAIN at St Nicholas, Leicester
« on: Tuesday 09 October 12 16:25 BST (UK)  »
I would be very grateful if someone could look for a baptism record for Eliza Chamberlain, around 1815, at St Nicholas in Leicester.

The writing on her marriage certificate is very hard to read, but her father's first name may have been William.

Derbyshire / Ann Ward, born abt 1808, Matlock - parish records
« on: Tuesday 24 July 12 22:06 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to find out more about Ann Ward, father's name John, who came from Matlock but ended up in Manchester. At some point it seems she married a Proctor (as recorded on the certificate for her second marriage).

She may have had a sister or cousin called Henrietta Ward, born about 1821.

At the bottom of this list there is a marriage which is of real interest, an Ann Ward marrying a Joe Proctor:

I wonder if anyone has access to these parish records, and could look into it for me?

Similarly, in this list there is a baptism record for 14 Sep 1808 for an Ann Ward, parents John and Maria:

I would love to find out more - any help greatly appreciated. :)

I have Margaret's age from her marriage certificate, but sadly no mention of her father. After she married the census forms give her birth place as Llandyssil.

I have seen an 1841 census record of an Owens family not far from there, in Llanllwchaiarn, where there is a two year old Margaret with parents Thomas and Shusan.

If there are any parish or other records, I'd be very grateful.

Cheshire Completed Lookup Requests / Bowdon, Timperley - WARBURTON *Completed*
« on: Thursday 05 July 12 19:21 BST (UK)  »
My 4xggparents, William WARBURTON and Hannah WALTON, were married at St Mary's, Bowdon on 25 Dec 1808 - if anyone has access to their marriage record, I'd love to know if it mentions their parents.

I'm also hoping there might be a baptism record for William. He was born  about 1789, and is sometimes described as 'William of Bowdon, formerly of Timperley'.

Any help greatly appreciated. :)

I'm looking for any baptism record of John Barnes, son of Moses and Sarah, born around 1815 in the Halifax area.

Also, any record of the marriage of his parents, and any siblings.

On Ancestry I found a record of the baptisms of Moses and Sally Barnes in 1797, parents John and Betty - I wonder if it could be the same Moses?

Thanks in advance for any help. :)

I believe my 3ggfather, John Barnes, married Hannah Warburton in 1839 at St Mary's in Cheadle. I would be really grateful if an entry for this could be found, especially if it mentions John's family. Many thanks.

I am trying to find evidence of the marriage of Barten Fletcher Allen (b. 1783 Ringley Lancs, d. 1864 Preston) to Grace Roscoe (possibly born Lancashire abt 1893); in particular, where her surname is mentioned.

They had 8 children whose online baptism records mention only Grace's first name, not surname. ('Barten' has been transcribed with many incorrect spellings!) Their second son was called Joseph Roscoe Allen, evidence for Grace's surname?

The 1861 census record shows that Barten had living with him 'Margaret Roscoe, spinster, aged 66, of Liverpool, Lancashire'.

The OPC for the County of Lancashire has a baptism record from St Andrews, Leyland, Lancashire for 'Margaret Roscoe - daughter of Joseph Roscoe & Alice' of 'Clayton' (12 Sep 1794) - clearly, this is not Liverpool (though there is a Clayton Square in Liverpool). However, there is another baptism record for a 'Grace Roscoe' for the same place and parents (7 Sep 1792) - coincidence?

One online blogger has detailed information related to descendents of this family, and mentions that Barten married Grace Roscoe in Prestwich, though he cites no source. (http://wilcockson.blogspot.com/2009/04/barton-wilcockson-allen-part-1.html)

There are family trees at ancestry.co.uk (I am a member there) for the UK and USA which list Grace Roscoe with even an image, but with no sources (other than references to each other).

If anyone can turn up a marriage record, or any other record that mentions Grace's full name alongside Barten or their offspring, I would be very grateful.
