Durham / catholic church marriages
« on: Wednesday 10 July 13 12:38 BST (UK)  »
would researchers please be aware that certain marriages that appear in the west hartlepool st joseph's roman catholic church book may well be marriages "in the eyes of god". this means that they married previously in a civil service elsewhere but later married in st joseph's church. this may well be the case for catholic churches throughout england. i list two examples taken from the ACTUAL PARISH REGISTER OF ST JOSEPH'S CHURCH in answer to reply #1:

on 26 october 1929 bernard tippey "married" catherine wearmouth. the ORIGINAL marriage was in the district of knaresbrough in j-m 1929 (freebmd).

on 23 june 1930 thomas doogan "married" susan barker. the ORIGINAL marriage was in hartlepool or west hartlepool in o-d 1924 (freebmd).
