New Zealand / Myra Madge BROWN
« on: Monday 22 January 24 02:22 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I am trying to find Myra Madge Brown.
She was the  adopted daughter of  William John and Laura Brown.

The birth appears to have been recorded in 1971 under the name Myra McLeod Brown.

She is mentioned in William's will which is available at NZ Archives 1928. (Will written February 1922)

Myra Madge married Kenneth Steward Eather on the 28 June 1922 Auckland NZ. (NZ Herald 1 July 1922)
The marriage notice gives Kenneth's father as J Easter of Australia.

The last record of her is from Family Search - Passenger record on the Moeraki for Sydney 29 June 1922 travelling with her husband.   Eather KS aged 27 - Gentleman and Eather MM aged 21.

Can anyone see what became of Myra?

Thank you Red3

Sussex / John Belcher birth?
« on: Friday 14 July 23 01:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I am looking for the birth of John Belcher in about 1807 at Bexhill East Sussex.  John joined the 31st Regiment of Foot. I have his records.

On another record I have gives John Belcher's birth as Peaks Hill in Purley Surrey??

Information from his death certificate gives his father as Joseph Belcher of the 1st Royal Regiment of Foot.  Mother is Hester.

Any clues to his parents or other siblings would be apricated.
This maybe a brickwall???

Australia / Mary Harriet Gartrell
« on: Tuesday 29 June 21 19:59 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Trying to find out what happen to Mary Harriet Gartrell.  (other spellings Gartell, Gertrell)

Mary was born 1888  to  John Gartrell and Emily Protheroe.  (who married Jan 1887 in Auckland)

She had a sister Emily Louisa Gartrell born 1887 and she died in Kerang Victoria Australia. Never married.

The only clue I can find is a tree online which does not have any references as to where detail have been obtained,  it gives her husband as Leslie Frederick Stewart Stanley. Who appears to live in Tasmania.  But I can not find a link between the two of them.  And has the death date as 1920.

Any help would be applicated.
Regards
Red3.

Armed Forces / James Protheroe Royal Navy
« on: Sunday 19 July 20 22:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Am trying to understand a record for James Protheroe who entered the Royal Navy as a volunteer on the 22 May 1871 on the "Fisgard"  (which I understand was a training ship at Woolwich)

James was born 22 May 1856 Westminster to Robert and Mary Ann Protheroe (of the Tavern "Adam and Eve" York St)

His Navy record from the National Archives records:

Ship                   Date                         If discharged whither and for what cause

Cambridge    1 Jan to 16 Jan 73
Impregnable 17 Jan to 19 May 73
Pearl            20 May to 2 Oct 73         Run Wellington
Blanche        20 Fed 74 to 7 April 74
Alacrity         8 April to 8 April  74      Run Auckland   Did not come for wages

These ships where in NZ and I can trace there movements on Papers past NZ.

What does Run Wellington and Run Auckland mean?
If he deserted his ship what could have become of him?  Could he have lived under another name for the rest of his life?
He was only 18 at this time.

According to his record he was 4 foot 11" , grey eyes, fair complexion and a tattoo on leg to waist and had no trade.

Any help would be appreciated.
