Angus (Forfarshire) / Maison Dieu, Brechin
« on: Sunday 20 September 20 00:35 BST (UK)  »
18 Aug 1832 my 3 x gt grandfather Joseph Archibald, a blacksmith of Maisondieu, married....at Brechin.
All I can find of this place is the hospital/chapel :
"The Maison Dieu hospital was founded in the 1260s to serve Brechin’s poor. It seems to have still been in use in the 1700s. But by the 1800s the chapel had been partially demolished and was in use as a stable."
I wonder if anyone could tell me whether this could have been an area of Brechin or could he have had a blacksmith's shop within the stables perhaps.
Also he was born in a place called Greenolar??  Farnell. I cannot find this place either. I have attached a copy of the baptism. Perhaps someone could decipher the name better than me. I am not familiar with the area at all.

Essex Lookup Requests / Look up - Tollesbury Baptism and Marriage
« on: Tuesday 19 April 11 16:10 BST (UK)  »
Baptism:
My 3rd Gt Grandmother Sarah Banyard was born 1812, Tollesbury, Essex according to 3 consecutive censuses. Please could someone look up this baptism.
I have found John and Maria Banyard on  the 1841 census for Tollesbury who would be a fit but I have no proof.

Marriage:
Sarah married James Wilkinson 29th September 1832 at St Mary, Tollesbury. My uncle found this in parish records many years ago but neglected to record any other information re witnesses etc.
With thanks
Kathy

Lancashire / Preston look up needed please
« on: Tuesday 12 April 11 13:33 BST (UK)  »
I have put this request up on two other websites but help is needed quite quickly due to the fact that the Lancashire Archives Preston will close completely to the public between June and October for renovations.

I have a friend visiting from N Zealand later this year. He was adopted and his father was a patient at Whittingham Asylum, Preston - he died 11-8-1966 and is possibly buried there. He would like to visit his grave if it still survives.

I received this email from them:

I can confirm that here in the Lancashire Archives we hold archives from the former Whittingham Hospital including the records listed below, which may include information relating to William Henry Pennington, who was admitted to the hospital twice, as follows:
Admitted: 2 September 1946
Patient no: 31387
Regraded to Voluntary Status: 28 April 1947
Discharged: 22 August 1948

Admitted: 28 February 1949
Patient no: 33381 (later renumbered 1651/60/I)
Died: 11 August 1966

The records which may include information about the period spent by William Henry Pennington in the hospital are as follows:.

There follows quite a few records but the burial record is the one we are looking for more urgently:

Reference HRW Accession 8279, Box 51
Register of Burials, 1920-1991 Open to public view.

Thank you for any help given.
