Angus (Forfarshire) / Chivers factory Montrose (1920s-1940s)
« on: Sunday 23 September 12 16:10 BST (UK)  »
I Am trying to find photos / stories of workers in the Chivers Factory especially around 1925-1935

I have got a photo taken of some of the staff, and would love to find someone with the full version or other versions of it.
its my great grandmother Annie Crowe she is bottom 2nd from the left.

I don't know who any of the others are in the photo so that would be lovely to find out if they were her friends. and if there is any other photos.

I also had my grandma and great aunty work there in the 1940s during WW2 so any info or history pics etc on then would be great.

Ive not found much yet on the montrose factory just on the business as a whole.

thanks

Occupation Interests / Night Watchman in the 1940s?
« on: Saturday 15 October 11 18:08 BST (UK)  »
Hi, Im hoping someone may know this cos i cant find the answer anywhere!

My Paternal Grandfather was a "Watchman" in 1942 he was in his 30s so he was capable of fighting in the war.

in 1933 when he got married his occupation was a house painter.
yet in 1942 when my father was born he was a "night watchman"

they were living in the centre of Cheltenham at the time.
His health was good, no underlying problems from what i can find

what was a watchman and what did he do?
also why wouldnt he of been called to fight in the war?
he died in 1983 and his occupation was a retired painter and decorator again.

many thanks

The Common Room / confused! can Jane and Anne be the same person?
« on: Wednesday 12 October 11 20:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi im so confused i believe ive found the correct family members but the name keeps changing of the mother!

Jane Harris born 1846 in charlton kings
Married John Drake born 1846 in charlton kings
they had several children from 1872-1882
however before that there was two children living with them who are listed as son and daughter but with the surname Harris (so either Jane was married before or Single an a bit of a flirt!)

I then looked for a Jane Harris in the 1871 census  but I couldnt find her!

So I looked for Alfred and he came up! however it says his mother is  Marry Harris aged 57 but there is a ANNE Harris aged 25 (would fit the age for Jane) and also a Sarah as his younger sister so Alfred and Jane fit but the mother doesnt, or even if Anne was the mother why did she say ten years later she was a Jane?

Is it normal for a name to change like this?

I found in a 1881 census the same family correct kids, ages, locations, jobs etc yet once again the Jane has become a Anne! and then Ten years later she is a Jane again!

why is this? ive checked the actually Census image and its definatly been transcribed correctly onto ancestry.

any help mucho appreciated!

Angus (Forfarshire) / Looking for pics of the 3craws Pub Montose
« on: Tuesday 11 October 11 18:51 BST (UK)  »
hi!
I am hoping someone may have some old photos of the 3 craws pub in Montrose?
It was on Wharf street numbers 1-4 (previously it was a shop)

It was owned by family members and my gr Grandad (Cra Cra ) used to have his own stool in the bar
would love to see old images of the pub and also if anyone ever used to drink in there?

I went for a holiday to see it back in June and its a lovely Resturant now so would love to see what it used to be like!
I have searched when was there and also online and not got anywhere!

thanks for any help or info
