Family History Beginners Board / To Be or Not to Be [Actor or Not]
« on: Tuesday 03 October 23 16:32 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for some family who may have been in the music hall/acting business. I have come to a brick wall could do with help from someone who knows how to research this line.

The 2 main people I am interested in are

Marie Valentine
Born 1874 – Kensington, London
Died 1956 – Brighton, Sussex
Believed she was a singer on the London stage and may have used the stage name of Marie Altino and/or Mrs Reynolds

George Henry Pownall
Born 1896 - Battersea, London
Died 1974 - Colesbourne, Gloucestershire
Believed in 1931 he described himself as an Actor living in Bryn Avon, Llandrindod Wells, County Radnor.  In 1936 he was using the stage name George Henry Astor and was touring musical halls and cinemas with a cabaret act

There is one other person who may or may not have been an actress with whom George Pownall had a relationship with in the early 1930s. Leighton Buzzard sometimes pops up?

Aileen Dorothy Campbell
Born 1906 - Merthyr Tidfil, Glamorgan
Died 1982 – Camden, London

London and Middlesex / Friern Barnet Asylum
« on: Friday 08 April 22 13:49 BST (UK)  »
I have established through research that a relative of the family was admitted to Friern Barnet in the late 1920s [not sure of the date] and remained there until his death in the 1980s. Can anyone advise whether I would be able to request or obtain hospital records for his admission period or the time during his stay. He was born in 1904 so he would have been quite young. I have his death certificate and schizophrenia was listed as one of the causes of death.
Thank you.

London and Middlesex / Looking for Birth and Death of Mary Ann Rannow - Pimlico
« on: Saturday 19 February 22 10:37 GMT (UK)  »
I wondered if anyone could help me find evidence of the death of Mary Ann Rannow. I believe she was born around 1843 in Pimlico and her Father was George Rannow and her Mother Mary Wilkes. I did find a birth but the mother maiden name was Barrett??

Sadly since February 1869 she was institutionalised in various Hospitals/Asylums. Her duty was as a laundress. The last record I have for her is on 11 April 1902 when she was admitted to Southwark Workhouse. Previous to that she was in the London County Lunatic Asylum in Canehill, Coulsden. She was aged 59 at this time.

Any help appreciated. Thank you
Lorna

London and Middlesex / Paper Bag Maker - London
« on: Friday 04 February 22 12:00 GMT (UK)  »
My husbands grandmother was on the 1871 census as a paper bag maker in Bermondsey/Southwark and I wondered if anyone knew of this industry and whether there were any factories or was the work carried out by printing companies. Any information would be appreciated.
Thank you

London and Middlesex / George Thomas Robinson - Bermondsey
« on: Wednesday 02 February 22 17:59 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for the family of the above child. George was born in 1854 and died in 1954. His burial date was 12 March 1854 and it looks like he may have been only 2 weeks old. The address registered on his burial is Hargrave Square, but I have in my records Hargreave Square which according to maps around this time was correct.
Can any one help please. Thank you. Lorna

Northumberland / Herron - Chestnut Street, Ashtington Northumberland
« on: Sunday 16 January 22 18:37 GMT (UK)  »
Hi an ancestor of a friend George Thomas Herron went missing in the first world war and his parents posted an information wanted poster and the address given was 216 Chestnut Street, Ashington, Northumberland. The closest census I can get for checking the address is the 1911 but it appears that Chestnut Street only goes up to 105/106. However when you look at present day I can find number 216 and on google maps the photos of the houses look just look the same as they would have been back then. Can anyone help solve the mystery of number 216. Thank you. Lorna

If anyone can help I would appreciate hearing from you. Regards. Lorna

Wexford / MARY THERESA DILLON - BORN ENNISCORTHY
« on: Tuesday 01 June 21 18:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I am looking for information on Mary Theresa Dillon. I believe born in Enniscorthy, Wexford about 1925. She may have been illigitimate. I am also looking for her mother and whether she may have married and had other children. Sorry it is not a lot to go on but I am not familiar with the Irish Genealogy Website and if I could find a birth that would help. If anyone can assist I thank you. Regards Lorna Macey
