Armed Forces / Military Pensions
« on: Thursday 08 May 08 21:03 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to trace the pension records of my GGGrandfather James Halpin. He was born in 1818 and was a Private in the 89th Regiment at the time of his marriage in Dublin in 1851 until around 1855. At that time he was in the North Mayo Militia in Castlebar. In 1861 he enrolled in the 3rd Battalion Connaught Rangers until his discharge in 1868 on the 1st February in Ballina. I obtained a Civil Service Evidence of Age record that he signed in 1877 which he says he is in the North Mayo Militia in Ballina. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. I have been trying to find out when and where he died and seem to have exhausted every avenue except this one.

« on: Monday 31 March 08 21:40 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone look up inscriptions in Killaderry for me. I am looking particularly for Sherwoods. Any would be of interest but a Richard Sherwood would be brilliant. I think he was married to an Elizabeth Payne. Many thanks.

Ireland / James Ferris Horse Trainer
« on: Monday 31 March 08 14:03 BST (UK)  »
I am hoping that someone can shed a bit of light on a James Ferris, father of Martha Jane Ferris. On her marriage certificate to Thomas Harvey on the 10 Dec 1897 at Jordanstown, Church of Ireland, her father is given as James Ferris, horse trainer. I would love to know more about him but I don't know where to start. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. ???

Armed Forces / Lookup at Kew - 89th Regiment
« on: Saturday 18 February 06 10:00 GMT (UK)  »
I don't know how big an ask this is but if anyone is going to Kew would it be possible to look up the movement of the 89th Regiment for 1851. The reference is WO 12/9138 and WO 12/9139. They were in Ireland and I have managed to get an idea of their movements for the other years I needed from the museum in Armagh (wonderful place). I would arrange for copies to be made for me through the NA but I don't know what size of a thing it is and if it would cost be a fortune. Any help would be most appreciated.

Dublin / Central Mental Hospital, Dundrum
« on: Monday 13 February 06 12:56 GMT (UK)  »
My GGGrandfather was a warder at an asylum at the time of his marriage in 1890. His wife was living at Windy Arbour and he was living at the asylum. I think the asylum must have been the Central Mental Hospital in Dundrum. Does anyone have any idea as to where I could get his work records or even some more early history of the asylum from around 1890. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
