« on: Tuesday 15 February 11 14:50 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone know how to access the Marriage  Bonds pre 1722 for Amounderness ?.The Lancashire and Cheshire Records Society Volume 75 does the Marriage Bonds for 1722 onwards, but tthe previous Volume 74 excludes Amounderness and only does Lonsdale and more Northerly areas.

Any clues out there ?

Lancashire / Thomas Hardiker-which Gaol on 1841 census night?
« on: Friday 25 September 09 10:42 BST (UK)  »
Can anybody work out this conundrum.Thomas Hardiker was imprisoned in late January 1841 and I cant find him in the 1841 census on Ancestry, when his family are in Claughton, north of Preston,Lancs.Which jails would there have been in 1841 near Preston and Lancaster ? Should I trawl through the Prisons looking for him mis-named ? Could he have been imprisoned outside of Lancashire?By the 1851 census he was living back in Claughton.

Ireland / Michael Donley [Donnelly]
« on: Thursday 24 January 08 15:18 GMT (UK)  »
I've been searching a long time for the origins of Michael Donley [also Donnelly/Donelly],who by 1861 was living with his wife Sarah in Hulme,Manchester...he was a Shoemaker/Cordwainer through his life.He died in Crumpsall Workhouse in 1909.I think he may be in the 1851 English Census in Manchester with a brother James Donley and a cousin Mary Meehan. All 3 would seem to have thought their dates of birth were 1830-1835 in Ireland [no county named].When Michael remarried in 1865 in Salford Roman Catholic Cathedral he gave his fathers name as Jordan Donnelly [Occupation..Tailor].In the 1871,1881,1891 and 1901 censuses Michael seem to change his birthplace from Manchester to Ashton under Lyne, randomly, which makes me suspicious he wasn't from either and may be the Michael Donley from Ireland in the 1851 census. His first marriage in England between 1855 and his wife's death in 1863 eludes me.
If anybody has a Jordan Donley[Donnelly] father of a James and Michael Donley [Donnelly]....please contact me...or if anybody has any ideas on how to find them.

Durham / Methodist/Non-Conformist Records in Medomsley/Shotley Area circa 1760
« on: Thursday 11 October 07 14:27 BST (UK)  »
Am researching for elderly father-in-law,whose family were strongly Methodist  and were from the Shotley Bridge/Medomsley area prior to 1841...does anybody know how best to access pre 1841 Methodist records from this area and perhaps where they would be likely to have worshipped. The Durham Records Office website seems to imply they have no records prior to 1840.

Dumfriesshire / Catherine Bell of Dumfries b.1803 @
« on: Thursday 18 May 06 18:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone,

I'm posting on the chance that anyone else is interested in Catherine Bell born 1803 @,in the Dumfries area. She reappears in 1822 marrying at Manchester Cathedral. The english 1841,1851,1861, and 1871 censuses have her as born in Scotland, but the 1881 census has her as stating Dumfries as her place of birth, more precisely. She had children Peter,Thomas,George,Jane Ellen,Margaret Ann and Henrietta.
  Does this ring any bells????
