Sussex / Re: Nancy Tuppeny
« on: Wednesday 18 November 09 20:00 GMT (UK)  »
True, but having read your Sussex posting you still seem not to have found her. Have you considered this option from IGI:

Nancy Tuppeny
Christening:  24 JUN 1774      Hawkhurst, Kent, England
Parents:
     Father:     Thos Tuppeny
     Mother:     Ann Tuppeny

Hawkhurst and Ticehurst are very close, on either side of the Kent/Suusex border.

Fermanagh / Jane QUINN, possibly of Beleek
« on: Tuesday 11 November 08 06:47 GMT (UK)  »
Jane Quinn married my Gt Gt grandfather Charles Smitherman in Tonbridge, Kent in 1866. On their marriage certificate she gives this information – age 24 (so born about 1842), father Patrick Quinn, deceased, policeman. Unfortunately there are a lot of Patrick Quinn’s in England prior to 1866, and many of them seem to have become policeman! None obviously fit as Jane’s father though.
On the 1871 census the enumerator unhelpfully just ditto’d her husband’s place of birth, Tonbridge, Kent, which is actually wrong for both of them!
In 1881 it gives her place of birth as Ireland, Fermanagh, and age now 38 (birth in 1843)
In 1891 the place becomes just Ireland
Finally in 1901 we get something useful, “Ireland, Billick”, and a dob of 1842.

I’ve hunted through Irish place names, and found nowhere called Billick, but did find “Belleek”, near Enniskillen, in Fermanagh which seems a likely answer.

Do parish records for Beleek still exist, and if so where can I find them? I'm hopefully going to be able to visit the area next year, so would gladly go wherever necessary to look at them. Can anyone help?

Louth / Osborne - Dundalk - 1869
« on: Saturday 28 May 05 06:23 BST (UK)  »
Please can anyone help me find information on my Gt Grandfather and his family - in Dundalk.

What I know is:
1 - He married Mary Jane Smitherman, in Tonbridge, Kent 1894. On their certificate he is a "labourer", age 25. Fathers name also Charles Osborne
2 - He died just 5 years later, still in Kent - 1899 - 2 months before my grandfathers birth.
The ONLY suitable Charles Osborne I can find in any UK census is for 1891 was resident at a boarding house in Trinity Newington, London. It lists a Charles Osborne, age 21, labourer - born Dundalk Ireland. I'm optimistic this is the right man - anecdotal family history has always included an Irish connection; and myself, my father and Grandfather all have Patrick as a middle name - the only members of a 1600 strong family tree to do so!
I have already had someone look in Dublin GRO records, but found no record of a Charles Osborne born between 1866 and 1872 anywhere in Ireland, unfortunately - so I'm at a dead end.

Any help, or guidance gratefully received.
