WHB father and WHB son were born in 1879 and 1900 in Wolverhampton.

I have found the father in 1881, 1891, and 1901 but cannot locate him in 1911, although I have found his wife, Mary Ann and 3 of their children living at 4  Court, Stafford Road, Wolverhampton. She is recorded as a housekeeper. WHB Snr died in 1920.

I can find WHB jnr in 1901 but not in 1911 or 1921 although he surfaces again in the 1939 Register in Wolverhampton.

Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Absent Voters List, WW1, Manchester
« on: Wednesday 18 October 23 15:30 BST (UK)  »
If anyone is going to Manchester Central Library in the near future I would very much appreciate a look-up in the Absent Voters Lists 1916-1919 please.

I am looking for military info on my wife's maternal grandfather, Ernest Parfitt (born 1888), who lived at 31 Highfield Street, Manchester in 1916.

We have no details of his regiment or service number but believe that he may have served in India.

I know that in Leicester the Absent Voters Lists record address, service number, rank, and regiment, so I hope that the Manchester records will be similar.

Thanks very much for reading this request.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Still searching for maternal grandad
« on: Thursday 10 August 23 15:38 BST (UK)  »
I am having trouble understanding DNA and would appreciate some help please.

My half cousin, we share a grandmother, shows as a match on Ancestry, as expected. Our match is 518cM across 22 segments, longest segment being 63cM. Ancestry gives us an 84% chance of being first cousins.

I have another Ancestry match of 244cM across 10 segments, longest segment being 45cM, and showing a 67% chance of being half first cousin once removed. Looking at that person's family tree they would appear to be the next generation down from me.

I have been trying, without success, to get the parent of this match (a possible half cousin) to take a DNA test which I am sure would help me in finding my maternal grandfather, long since dead. Am I correct in saying that each subsequent generation reduces by approximately half the match numbers? If so, the parent of my match would show approximately 488cM across 20 segments, very close to my known half cousin.

Would that be sufficient to confirm that the possible first cousin and I share a grandfather?

I hope that I've explained this adequately and hope that someone is able to help.

Thanks

« on: Thursday 27 December 18 08:39 GMT (UK)  »
Good morning,  :)

I've just obtained my wife's granfather's birth certificate and it gives his pob as 7 Hardman Street, Rusholme in May 1888.

I've been unable to locate Hardman Street on any maps and hope that someone may be able to tell me precisely where it was, with a amp link if possible.

Thanks

Leicestershire / Children's Homes in Leicester
« on: Monday 26 November 18 14:05 GMT (UK)  »
My mother and her sister spent some time in a Children's Home in Leicester during the late 1920s/early 1930s. Are there any records of homes/inmates from that time that may allow me to find anything out about their time in the home?

Thanks
