Somerset / Somerset in the Civil War Records
« on: Friday 21 December 12 19:39 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone know what records exist for Somerset during the Civil War period and where they can be found? I'm assuming baptism, marriage and burial records might be incomplete but was thinking possibly army lists etc might exist somewhere?

Somerset / Singleton Family - Winsham (1600s)
« on: Thursday 20 December 12 19:24 GMT (UK)  »
I've come across a John Singleton buried 1600 in Winsham, Somerset and a Thomas Singleton buried 1664 also in Winsham. (Elizabeth bur 1660 and Joan bur 1677 I'm assuming are their wives.) There doesn't seem to be a birth record for any of them in the Winsham registers online or a marriage - does anyone have any suggestions/information on how to look into this further?

My maternal line of Singletons goes back to the 1700s in the Winsham and surrounding area but I'm yet to work out how these two fit in or even if they do.

Best Wishes,

Dorset / Wool - Parish Church?
« on: Thursday 03 November 11 21:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I've just found the burial record of an Yvonne Singleton age 3 weeks in 1949 (spelt incorrectly as Ivonne Singleton) in the dorset parish records on ancestry. It says at the top "burials in parish of Wool with East Burton (sp?), but doesn't give a church name - from what I've been able to figure, there's Coombe Keynes Church and Holy Rood, but I'm a bit confused over which was the parish church in 1949 and which one (if either of them) the burial would have taken place at.

Also, does anyone know of any existing info on burial plots etc for either church so I can attempt to locate the grave site? The child in question was my maternal grandmother's first daughter (named after her own sister who sadly died aged 13 a few years before) and no one in the family really knows a great deal about the situation as she was born and died before my grandmother married my grandfather.

Any help anyone can give would be much appreciated,
Anna x

Dorset / Electoral Rolls - Wool

Hi,

Does anyone know if  the electoral rolls for Wool, Dorset, exist for the years 1945-1955, and, if so, where would I go about looking for them?

Thanks in advance,

Suffolk / Parishes near Barking?
« on: Tuesday 01 February 11 19:03 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm trying to locate a baptism record for an Emily Lambert born c.1816 in Barking, Suffolk. I haven't been able to find her in the Barking parish registers however, and was wondering if anyone who has a little more knowledge of the area could suggest any nearby parishes where she might have been baptised?

Thanks in advance,
Anna

Essex / Elaine Lambert
« on: Monday 03 January 11 20:41 GMT (UK)  »
I found the following interesting snippet while researching an Elaine Alice Lambert in my tree:

LAMBERT - Will Elaine Alice Lambert formerly living at 52 Brook Street Colchester Essex and last heard of in Colchester in 1945, or any person having knowledge of her present whereabouts communicate with Page, Ward and Daykin solicitors, 70 High Street, Colchester, Essex.

A handwritten note underneath says N.W 19/11/1961

Does anyone have any ideas on how I could follow this up? I've been unable to find a marriage or death record for Elaine, all I have is that she was born in 1900 in Essex.

Suffolk / Ernest and Harry Lambert - Wiston War Memorial
« on: Monday 03 January 11 19:35 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm trying to trace an Ernest and a Harry Lambert from the Wiston/Nayland area of Suffolk. They appear on the Wiston War Memorial as casualties of The First World War, but other than that I know nothing about them. Any ideas of possible candidates from the 1901 census (or elsewhere) would be much appreciated.

Herefordshire / Margaret Dorinda Brookes
« on: Sunday 02 January 11 18:42 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm trying to find info on a Margaret Dorinda BROOKES who I believe was in the Hereford (possibly Weston Beggard) area in 1935. I've found a birth record for someone of that name in Ely, Cambridgeshire in 1875 but that's about it. Any info on marriage/death/ how to trace general whereabouts would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Essex Lookup Requests / Marriage lookup - WHEELER/MOSS
« on: Thursday 18 November 10 21:51 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm trying to find the marriage of a James William Charles WHEELER and a Valentina Alicia MOSS (who appears to have been known as Jessie and re-married under that name in 1901).

They had a daughter named Grace Gertrude Eveline in 1895 in Colchester, and Jessie/Valentina's father's name was William MOSS.

(This connects to another lookup request searching for Jessie in the 1881/1891 census)

Thanks in advance for anything anyone can find as we're tearing our hair out!
