Banffshire / Shenlachie in Mortlach
« on: Thursday 07 March 19 13:24 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all

I've tracked some c18th births in Mortlach recorded at 'Shenlachie' but the only reference to this I've found is on the banks of the Findhorn ('Shenachie') further south west. ( Could also be me doing a bad job superimposing the parish maps onto OS Landranger).

Anyone know where this might be in Mortlach?

Cheers/Max

Hi there

Can anyone help please me decipher the attached full text of this entry for Alexander Roy, birth recorded 22/04/1798? It's an Insch birth, but I believe the text mentions more details about the place.

22/04/1798 ROY, ALEXANDER (Old Parish Registers Births 203/ 10 316 Insch) Page 316 of 417

If it's the right entry, it's also a semi-out of wedlock birth to a Grace Roy, who was a cousin (apparently) to father Alexander Roy. Grace was the widower of a John Robertson, and then marries Alex Roy in 1800.

Cheers/Max

Moray (Elginshire) / Alexander Roy, Grace Roy, Moray/Banff or further afar
« on: Tuesday 15 November 11 23:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all, wondering if anyone can please help with this one?

Looking for the parents of Alexander Roy born in 1763 apparently in the parish of Boharm. Died Drumblade, Huntly, Aberdeenshire Dec 31 1830 Kirkyard of Drumblade (AA125), Stone 290.

I couldn't find any records from Boham/Banff, but there is a birth of an Alexander Roy in 1763 recorded up the road in Mortlach to parents William Roy and Jane Robertson - can anyone find a better match?

Also looking for more information on Alexander Roy's wife: Grace born c1760, died 1833, also buried Drumblade.

Alexander married Grace in Insch in 1800 although Grace apparently married a Robertson (first name unknown before that).

Phew, thanks!
