Warwickshire / Leicester/Lester Street Birmingham
« on: Sunday 29 September 13 13:27 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone know where this street was? I have a couple of 19th century maps of Brum but can't seem to find it.

I have Leicester Street listed as the address of one of my ancestors, William Price, on the baptism of his two sons, William and Elijah, in 1822. They were baptised at St Philips. A possible daughter, Elizabeth, was baptised at Ashted St James in 1827, and the address was this time spelled 'Lester Street'.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Photo dating please?
« on: Tuesday 27 November 12 20:52 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
Could anyone give me a date on this photograph? I apologise for the quality, it's a scan of a photocopy sadly, since I don't have the original. I know that the man at the back is my great grandfather, who died in 1925, so it's before that, and I believe that the boy next to him may be his younger son, born 1906, which suggests it's around the time of WWI. I have no idea about the identity of the two small boys or most of the women, but I wonder if the woman with the boy on her lap could be my great grandmother, who died in 1915, so a date would be helpful. It doesn't look hugely like the other photos I have of her, but those date roughly 1895-1905.

Kent Lookup Requests / Barfreston Parish register - ROWLEY
« on: Saturday 16 June 12 07:58 BST (UK)  »
Would SKS be able to look at the Barfreston parish registers for marriage in 1811 and check the marriage on 22 JUL 1811 between Samuel Rowley and Jane Parker? I'm looking for any other details which may have been recorded, such as if they were local or not. Any help greatly appreciated.

Worcestershire Lookup Requests / Droitwich Parish records, HARRIS 1843
« on: Friday 15 June 12 09:53 BST (UK)  »
Could SKS please check the parish records for Droitwich St Andrew for 17 Jan 1843 - according to the IGI
a Henry Harris married Mary Williams, and I'd like to know the rest of the details - occupations, father's names etc. I'm out of the country so ordering a certificate is a bit difficult at the moment. Most grateful for any help!

Berkshire Lookup Requests / WHITEHALL, Windsor, c1805
« on: Tuesday 05 June 12 16:32 BST (UK)  »
Could SKS look at baptisms for Windsor around 1805-6 and see if there's a baptism for a William Whitehall? He was living in London 1829-1852, and gave Windsor as his place of birth on the 1851 census.
Many thanks in advance

Would SKS check the Bromsgrove registers for me, I have a William Davice (prob a misspelling of Davis), son of Benjamin and Tracy, bapt 28 MAR 1796 according to the IGI - if someone could confirm that for me, and check a few years back for the parents marriage, I'd be most grateful.

Herefordshire Lookup Requests / Baptism c1800 SCANDRETT - Dilwyn
« on: Friday 18 May 12 18:38 BST (UK)  »
I have a Sarah Scandrett, born c 1799-1801, who gives Dilwyn as her birthplace on all but one census return. My ggg grandfather (William Scandrett)'s son Charles was living with her and her husband (George Anderson) in 1851 as 'nephew', so I presume her to be William's sister (she also witnessed his marriage). However, while there is a William Scandrett baptised in Dilwyn in 1801 (about right for my William), I've failed to find Sarah.

In short, can anyone find her for me?! I wonder if she was baptised late/as an adult, or was born earlier than she stated.

William died in 1841, so I can't check later censuses for his exact birthplace.

Could some kind person with directories covering the above do a look up for me?
I'm looking for the date that the Kendall family moved to Beech Road, Bournville. They lived at either 44 or 48 I believe, next door to the Griffiths at no 46. I know they were in Dudley in 1911, and must have moved before 1925.

TIA

Hi, if anyone has access to Dilwyn Parish register, could anyone tell me if they can find a Sarah Scandrett, born around 1800 (but could be anywhere between about 1797 and 1806)?

She married George Anderson (a Tailor from Scotland) in 1835 in West Bromwich, and died in 1889. On every census but one she gives Dilwyn as her birth place.

I believe her to be the sister of my 3x great-grandfather William Scandrett (born c1801) (his son Charles was living with her family as 'nephew' in 1851)  and she was a witness at his marriage in 1825 in Pembridge. William died in 1841, so I don't know the exact place of his birth - which is why I'm looking for hers. I know there's a William Scandrett born in Dilwyn to James and Elizabeth, but I can't find a Sarah, so can't prove the family is the right one.

This is a big brick wall for me, so any help will be most gratefully received!

TIA
