Banffshire / John Mitchell b c 1811 in Banffshire.
« on: Tuesday 09 January 18 18:56 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I very much hope you can help me.  My great x 2 Grandfather John Mitchell was married in Liverpool in 1838 to Esther Bradshaw.  John was about 25 and Esther 19.  She was born and bred in Liverpool, but where John came from was a mystery.  On the marriage certificate his father was given as Alexander Mitchell a wood forester.   In the 1841 census (in Liverpool) it is at the bottom of the page and it says either I or S , but not born in county.  John was a gardener and to cut a long story short, I found his death , from tetanus , in 1845.  I eventually found his grave at All Saints , Childwall, near where they lived.  I presume, that because he died from a work accident, his employer paid for a stone.  This stone says "He was a proud native of Banffshire"".   I would now like to trace where in Banffshire he came from and  who his mother and any siblings were.  would there be any one who could help, please.  Where did Alexander do his Wood foresting?

I thought I had solved it one with John Mitchell b 1812 Mortlach; Alexander and Annie Stuart, but then I think they have their John whith them in 1841 census.  So back to the start.  I can't find any other likely families. ???
Thanks for your help  Lynne

Warwickshire / Harvey and Carter from Birmingham
« on: Thursday 04 February 16 17:12 GMT (UK)  »
Susannah Carter, b c 1818, in or close around Birmingham, is my Great x 2 grandmother. She married my great x 2 grandfather , Samuel Harvey, in 1836 at St Peter's Harborne, Nr Birmingham. He was a comb maker? A witness at this marriage was an Elizabeth Carter, perhaps mother or sister/ sister in law. They then lived in Sun St Birmingham and Kings Norton before moving to Liverpool. 1841 and 1851 census. They moved to Liverpool between 1851 and 1854 when my great g. mother (Eliza Agnes) was born. I have all the children, some baptised at St Philip's Birmingham (7) and born Liverpool (3). I connected the families by getting a birth certificate for Samuel Cade Harvey b Birmingham, Dec 1843 and my G Grandmother Eliza Agnes b Liverpool Jan. 1854. They matched as the same parents :D .
Children most of whom were known by their second names.
born Birmingham
Louisa Betsy 1838
James Thomas 1840
Ann Maria 1842
Samuel Cade 1843
Emily 1845
Catherine Alice 1847
Julia Clara 1849

Born Liverpool
Eliza Agnes 1854
(Sarah) Emily 1856
Margaret Ann 1859
Her first Husband Samuel Harvey died 1858 and she remarried 1866. She is on 1861 census at 102 Tarlton St Everton.
A few areas of help please
1) Samuel Cade vanishes after 1851 census in Kings Norton. I can't find a death marriage or any thing. As I have his birth certificate I would like to trace him and where did "Cade" come from??
2) Baptisms of those born in Liverpool.
3) Any thing about Susannah b c 1818 before her marriage. I have her father as Samuel from her 2nd marriage to Abraham Webster July 1866 at St Peter's Everton. BUT could she have not known or forgotten her father's name and used her late husband or father in law's in stead?? I cannot find her birth or any siblings.
Any help would be gratefully accepted,  Thanks Lynne

Westmorland Lookup Requests / Varley/ Atkinson married Kendal
« on: Sunday 17 January 16 11:41 GMT (UK)  »
Hi .  I am hoping some one will be able to help me find more info on this wedding.
Joseph Varley married Margaret Atkinson in Kendal on 11 Jan 1807.  I got this info from England select marriages on Ancestry.  These are my 3 x great grandparent.

They had my great x2 grandfather, Samuel, in Kendal 16 April 1809 and then moved to Liverpool before their next child Joseph was born in 1810 and the father died also in 1810.

I would like some help finding the church in which they were married and Samuel was baptised.  Also if possible how I can get a copy of the register entry from the church, in the hope that I can find the parents of Joseph and Margaret.

Any help would be appreciated  Thanks
I have also posted this on British Genealogy.  Hope this is ok.

Lancashire / baptism St Peters - registration Liverpool - brick wall
« on: Tuesday 01 January 13 12:39 GMT (UK)  »
Perhaps someone could help me with this brick wall.
My Great Grandmother was born Liverpool 1849 according to the 1851 and subsequent census. Her name was Mary Jane Howard. She lived nearly all her life in Gascoyne St,(even after her marriage)
Her older brothers were baptised at St Peters, but the records fo 1849 have not been transcribed by Lancashire on line paris council - to whom I give my greatest thanks (best site on the internet!!   ) Do you think this is because they have been lost. If not St Peters is there another church close by.

If any one can help as I have no baptism OR registration of her birth.
Thanks Lynne

Lancashire / burial/ funeral John Mitchell Liverpool 1921
« on: Tuesday 01 January 13 12:38 GMT (UK)  »
I can't remember if I have put this on before. I am trying to find the burial place/ funeral service for 2 of my ancestors both called John Mitchell, both died in 1921. I have death certs for both of them.
1 My grand father John Mitchell b 1881 died 7 March 1921 (reg Liverpool)
2. His son John Verdun Mitchell b 1916 died 8 Dec 1921, having been run over by a car, he died of head injuries.
I hoped that a car accident would be so rare in 1921 that it might have made the papers. I have been unable to find any trace of this. I think there was an inqest, but haven't been able to find this either.
Whilst on this , I know my grand father's father was William Mitchell b 1845 and his father was also John b c 1811 in Ireland or Scotland acording to 1841 census. I can't read the mark. Any help on any of these would be very much appreciated
Thanks Lynne

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Liverpool papers Mitchell 1921 and Fletcher 1910
« on: Wednesday 28 December 11 10:45 GMT (UK)  »
I have 2 ancestors who died in accidents and would like to know if there are any news write ups on them.
1) John Verdun Mitchell  b 13 March 1916 and was run over by a car in Liverpool December 1921 (around the 8th. )

2) Hugh Fletcher b 1905 d  1910 drowned in a canal at Melling. (June quarter)

I do not live near Liverpool so look ups are difficult for me.  If any one is going to do their own research and could add mine I would very much appreciate it.
Thanks in anticipation  Lynne
