Kent / Surname Help
« on: Sunday 08 July 18 20:37 BST (UK)  »
Good evening all,

I am currently researching my Great Grandad. He moved from Glasgow to Kent and died there in 1963. On his death certificate, the informant is his step-daughter and as I haven't found any record of the marriage to his second wife (I don't know her maiden name), I am keen to investigate her further. The only problem is, the surname is confusing me.

Can any of you help? I wondered if any of you might have come across the name before. Her address is in Faversham. An image of the signature should be attached (fingers crossed).

Many thanks,

Jen

Angus (Forfarshire) / Bruce's Land, Mill's West Wind, Dundee?
« on: Thursday 06 July 17 21:42 BST (UK)  »
Good evening all,

I'm hoping someone out these can help me.  On my GGGrandmothers birth register (b.1865), her 'where born' reads, 'Bruce's Land, Mill's West Wynd, Dundee'. I have had a long look online and can find information on various 'Land's' in the city but I can't seem to find anything on Bruce's Land. I can find a little information on Mill's West Wind but it's all very vague. I may be looking in the wrong places!

Can anyone help? I'd love to know where in the city it is/was and any information about it.

Thank you in advance,

Jenni

Good evening all,

I am currently knee deep in a puzzle involving my great-grandmother. On my Granny's birth certificate, my Granny is named Jessie M S Duncan or Gallagher.  In the parents box there are two empty lines then it names her mother Betsy B S Duncan or Gallagher, wife of John Gallagher etc etc. This confused me initially and while investigating this i have noticed my great-grandmother used the surname 'Duncan or Gallagher' through the documents i found and even her death record has this.

Can anyone give me any clue as to why she would use both surnames together? And also, i have a suspicion my Granny may have been illegitimate, it does not say this but the gap before her mothers name makes me wonder. Can anyone advise?

Thanks in advance!

Monaghan / Unknown Town - Can anyone help decipher it?
« on: Sunday 18 September 16 20:22 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,

I am currently researching a part of my family that have been based in Dundee, Scotland for some time, but on a marriage certificate i have spotted that the bride appears to have been born in 'Co Monahan' (i am making an assumption that it should be Co Monaghan).  My issue is that i can't work out the name of the town.  No amount of Googling random possibilities is working.

Can anyone translate it for me? I wondered if some of you might have come across the place name on your travels. I have attached an image of the words on the marriage certificate. (i hope it's worked)

Thanks in advance,

Jenni
