Would a death certificate from 1862 state the cause of death?

Lancashire / Farnworth/Waddicar
« on: Wednesday 03 December 14 19:00 GMT (UK)  »
How do you find out if someone had children with no census info? (ie after 1911)
My great uncle Robert Farnworth (b 1897 Belmont D 1952) and his wife Annie (nee Waddicar) (b 1897 Turton d 1952 +). I have a newspaper cutting from 1952 placing them in Lytham, Lancs. and I believe they had lived in that area for some time. They were married 1919 Walmsley, Christ Church.

Lancashire / Fanny Farnworth
« on: Tuesday 02 December 14 21:23 GMT (UK)  »
You were briliant with help on Fanny's sister Ellen ... I've now spent hours pursuing Fanny and once again got stuck ... and I've tried Lancs BDM (found marriage) and Lancashire on-line Parish (very interesting). I found out (from Lancs BDM) that she married in my local church (St Katharines Blackrod). 1851 census has the surname as Famarth! Other info:
Born 1842 baptised 6/11/42
married 1967 to James Hulme
can't find deaths of either of them.

Now James Hulme was born in Blackrod and I think he must have been married before but I can't find a first wife - he and Fanny are in the 1881 census in Darwen and have children Anne 1858 Margaret 1861 James 1862 Elizabeth 1864 and Jacob 1870 - the latter must be Fanny's but who is mother of the others?? I can't seem to find these children's records ... other than the census.
I think James was born 1833. Baptised 7/9/34 (St Katharines) - that's the best fit date as there are other James Hulmes recorded there.

I don't understand why Ancestry.co.uk throws up so many records which are so obviously incorrect? It's been quite frustrating tonight ... I must be doing something wrong as I put in alot of info and I get such poor "matches" back eg names nothing like Fanny, years way out etc ...!

Thanks again ... I'm sure you experts will easily do this ...!

Lancashire / Ellen Farnworth
« on: Tuesday 02 December 14 18:58 GMT (UK)  »
Found some info and then nothing ...
Ellen Farnworth born c1847 Adlington, Lancs (near Chorley)
Father Edward Farnworth Mother Anne [Croston?]
Got 1851 1861 1871 census details
Married 1970 Francis Stephenson and had a son William C same year.
Then Francis remarries Oct 1980 another Ellen (Birchall) (they are in 1881 census still in Adlington) and I think the marriage cert says he's a widower but writing is difficult to be exact (and for some reason my printer doesn't like it ...)
I can find a death for an Ellen Stephenson in Burnley 1913 but that doesn't tie in with her husand being a widower when he remarried ...
I can't find any mention of William C Stephenson beyond 1871 census.
I don't understand why I can't find Ellen's death (and I've tried Lancashire BDM)
I'll have another look at marriage cert ...
Any help appreciated -thanks!

World War One / WW 1 record
« on: Monday 01 December 14 21:01 GMT (UK)  »
My grandfather was in the trenches WW1 - he never talked much about it all as it upset him deeply but he did mention Mons ... I can't find any service record of him - can anyone point me in the right direction please? His name was Thomas Edward Farnworth and he lived in Belmont, Lancashire and was born 26/8/1898 (although he apparently lied about his age when he joined up). Thank you.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Ida Forrest, Bolton
« on: Tuesday 03 April 12 21:54 BST (UK)  »
Ida was the last of my great aunts and I've been to her funeral today. She married my late gran's brother William Forrest and I've found that on Lancs BDM - 1940, Bolton. Her maiden name was Partington and I believe she was born 1917 but I can't find her birth, nor her 2 daughters Pat and Linda - all should be in Bolton. William (Bill) died 1980. Thanks in anticipation!

Armed Forces / Cavalry officer?
« on: Thursday 19 January 12 20:14 GMT (UK)  »
I have a photo of my great-grandfather in uniform on a horse. I tried in the past to find information but nothing ... having seen "War Horse" recently it has re-newed my interest. Forum members have been SO helpful on other areas of my family so can anybody point me in the right direction please? Thank you!
Thomas Forrest born about 1868 Scotland, died 1926 Billericay, Essex
My nanna used to talk about the soldiers horses they looked after which I assumed was near Kirby Lonsdale, but after some research this might have been Newton with Scales, Lancashire (near Blackpool)!
