World War Two / WW2 RAF Service Record - Interpretation Help

Good Morning Lovelies!

I received my Grandfather's RAF records last week and I have been building a timeline in order to match our family stories/memories/photos.

He was based in Nigeria for a while but it is the entries between them and the 69 squadron service echelon.

I know that he was in RAF Titchfiled in August 1944 (per his marriage cert) which would be aligned to to the entry BPSO/HS the move reason is "C" and I can't find what that would mean either.

So the codes I haven't been able to decode are:
BPSO/HS  C
84 GSO  is this 84 squadron?

Armed Forces / Another Uniform Mystery

I have another mystery from a relative who is going through some photos - these are also unnamed people we are trying to work out who they are and using uniforms/badges to help.

The person in uniform I am stretched to identify if it is the same person in the other photo. The hair and face are so similar! Obviously they are dressed very differently. So my query is...

Does this strike you as a military uniform?

Could it be a female playing dress up - has anyone seen that before?

We do have a female relative who was a missionary in India - would they have worn military style clothing?? A real long shot!

There is nothing written on the back of the photos to even identify the location of the photographer.

Armed Forces / Cap Badge Query - unknown time period

Good Afternoon all!

A relative has sent me pictures of  double sided locket and we are trying to work out who the people are. One of the clues is the cap badge.

I suspect this is WW1 but I am guessing from her hairstyle and collar. So a hazy guess. Our other photos we have between us are around the inter war years.

I thought it was Royal Artillery but it looks slightly different to any I can find! There are a couple of buttons visible but not the greatest clarity.

Sligo / Help with Sligo place name (image)

Hi Sligo experts,

Hoping for some help on the attached image. This is from an 1855 birth certificate from Annan Scotland. Catherine Fallon/Fallen is the mum, the cert states she is 17, this is her first child. Birth certs from this year include place of birth. I can read “Co of Sligo, Ireland” but not the word before it? Can you help?

Just as background her parents are Thomas Fallon/Fallen and Bridget who may have the maiden surname Lang or Long. This is the couple I am tracing.

I have a fair bit of info on the couple once they are in the UK but I trying to trace their origins.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Alfred Palmer and Family c1930 taken in Llandudno

Hi All,

This is the only known picture of Alfred John Brinson Palmer my Great Grandfather.  He hailed from Somerset lived in Liverpool and holidayed in Llandudno, where his wife Violet Beatrice Hughes was from.  She is likely to be taking the photo.  I suspect the two ladies are sisters of Violet but I don't know which ones as there were many! The littlest girl standing by Alfred is his daughter Lilian, my Nana.  She was born late 1923, hence me thinking this is c1930, give or take a year. Her brother is teh tallest child and teh other two are their cousins - again not sure who they are.

I was hoping that someone could improve the contrast so Alfred was clearer, given it is the only picture we have.

Staffordshire / Thomas Tibbetts died 1758 - tracing his family

Hello Lovely People,

It's been a long time since I have had the time to pick my research up again.  One thing that is true, the ancestors aren't going anywhere!

I've had a little break through which has resulted in slapping in to another puzzle.

Himself is descended from the family Tibbetts in Edinburgh and I've spent years trying to work out where his family originally hail from as this isn't a Scottish name.  I found the following advert on BNA last night...

Whereas Thomas Tibbitts deceased, late Steward to the Right Honourable Earl Gower of Trentham in the county of Stafford had an elder brother, who lived and died in the city of Edinburgh in Scotland, but the parish or street at present cannot be found where he resided, and whereas such elder brother left a son, who is also dead in Edinburgh, and he also left a son who is supposed to be about seven years old.

Notice is hearby given, that if such infant, or his heir at law can be found out, he may hear of something to his advantage, and he is entitled to, by applying to Mr Downey, Agent of Messrs. Roebuck and Garbet at Prestonpans, near Edinburgh.

Thomas actually died in 1758 aged 72 from a memorial I found online.  His will seems to be settled in favour of his sister Elizabeth married to a Joseph Norbury so I am very curious as to why 8 years later they are off looking for the elusive older brother.

Does anyone have access to Trentham archives to gain any info on Thomas Tibbitts/Tibbetts?

I've done a bit of googling but haven't worked out whether he is originally from Stafford or not.

Can I get an opinion on what the word in yellow is?

On the extract below I can read...

...years also I give and bequeath unto Jane Cork daughter of my brother James Cork the sum of twenty pounds of like lawful amount to be paid to her at her age of twenty one years also I give and bequeath unto my ________  Phillip Cork....

The word appears a 2nd time but I can't work out what it says.

World War One / Query on abbreviations

Hi All,

We've found some medals for my (step) great grandfather (see picture).  My question is what does the abbreviation  "FUN,. M.F.A." stand for?  My guess is it is a Marine Fire Auxiliary? As he was a marine fireman in Liverpool.  I have his census and marriage info I'm interested in his war experience now.

Durham / Help finding Fallen/Fallon in Heworth or surrounds

Hi All,

I am trying to trace my direct ancestors who are last seen in Heworth in 1871.  They are Thomas and Bridget FALLEN (family later known as Fallon)

Occupation:
Ag lab as per census 1841
Labourer as per census 1861
Labourer (dec) as per marriage cert of son Michael 1897

This is what I know of Thomas.  Also that he is Irish very possibly from Sligo as his daughter Catherine (next door in 1871) was born there.

1841: Census Howgate, Maxwelltown 26
1851: Census 23 Market St, Maxwelltown 40
1861: Census Main St Haltwhistle Northumberland 50 (I'm confident this is the right family as daughter Margaret is born in Scotland.)
1871: Heworth (nr Ship Inn), Durham 60 (next door to the Reillys)

After this time I lose trace of Thomas and Bridget.  In order to try and find a death cert would I be correct in thinking Heworth would be classed as "Gateshead" for certs? Is that true pre-1889?
