Durham / James Ernest Daglish 1868 - ?
« on: Sunday 26 February 23 01:11 GMT (UK)  »
James was born in Gateshead in 1868 ( only found a baptism record of 7 Sep 1868, no cert of birth found yet).  He later married a Henrietta Grainger in1989.  They had at least 2 children;

James Ernest 1887 (born before the marriage,  obtained from various census) died 1918 (WW1), obtained from military records.Regimental # 15181 under name of Ernest Daglish.

Henrietta 1891- ?

Because father/Son have the same names there seems to be a confusion over their deaths.  Others (in Ancestry) indicate that both died on the same day 29 Mar 1918  (unlikely). Also James senior would be 50 yrs old and on the front lines (again unlikely, I think, thogh I may be wrong here).

Can anyone help me sort this out please?

Finding James senior's death date would solve the conundrum I hope.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Wales / Sheila Elizabeth Francis ( Nee Gibson) 1922 - 1995
« on: Saturday 04 February 23 14:37 GMT (UK)  »
During WW11 Sheila married a Cyril Edward Francis (1914- 1942), in Glamorgan, Wales in 1941 (2nd 1/4).
Sheila gave birth to Michael John Francis (1942 - 2010), in Jan 1942.  Cyril was killed in action in July 1942 in the desert (regimental number 833526 Royal Artillery).
The issue here is can Cyril be Michael's natural father if he was not in the country.  The only way to prove this is to find where he was posted 9 months prior.  Does anyone have access to military records for that time period.

Thanks

Richard

England / Sheila Elizabeth Crisell 1922-1995
« on: Saturday 04 February 23 14:18 GMT (UK)  »
Sheila was born to Annie Grace Crisell in Jun 1922 in Newcastle I believe. The registration of her birth shows she took her mother's maiden name (indicating that Annie was not married at the time). I have seen a digital copy of the birth cert. that does not show a father.
A year later Annie married a Robert Gibson, in Newcastle and under the adoption act of 1926 her name was later changed to Sheila Elizabeth Gibson, but the cert.gave Kelvedon, Essex as her birth place.
I know Annie's family was from Kelvedon but I think at the time of Sheila's birth her mother was working in Newcastle, but I can not find any proof (ie. 1921 census, when it is released).
Would love to sort this out by either finding the original Birth Cert. issued in Newcastle, or find a record of where Annie was living in 1921 when Sheila would have been conceived.

Northumberland / Lillian Lingwood Grainger 1891 - 1965 Newcastle
« on: Saturday 15 May 21 21:18 BST (UK)  »
This lady was born to Margaret Ellen Grainger 1865 - 1916 (no father listed on Birth Cert).
The mother went on to marry Peter Laidler in 1902.

Lillian later married William Pierce  1891 - Unk, in 1913 in Gateshead. On her wedding cert. her "father" is given as Edward Grainger.

No record has been found for an earlier marriage for her  mother Margaret, least of all to Edward.

So the mystery is who is Lillian's father.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Lancashire / Cecil Frederick Thomas Coulson 1885 - 1955
« on: Tuesday 11 May 21 21:12 BST (UK)  »
Cecil was born in County Durham to parents Frederick Coulson and Annie Mary Munnoch.  He MAY have married the following women;

Mary Conway in 1915 (Liverpool) 1890 - 1938 (3 children, Richard 1920; Ernest 1922;Joseph 1920)

Maria (Mary) Farrell (unk.location for marriage, born Abt.1886 (unk death details)  (at least 2 children; Thomas Cecil 1913 ;Joseph 1919)

Elizabeth Hynes  in 1940. Born 1898 in Preston.

In a 1939  Census Cecil is listed as a Widower. Living with Bridie Hynes (Housekeeper) and the 3 children listed above.
At his death his widow is shown as Elizabeth (Bridie) Coulson. I am assuming he married his housekeeper.
My interest is in Thomas Cecil ( I have a DNA link to a descendent of his)

Do I have the details correct or is there more than one Cecil involved in these marriages. I also have a proven  direct link to his sister Whilhemina Coulson 1890 - 1977.

Hope I have not confused everyone.

Any guidance appreciated

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / DNA Changes
« on: Sunday 24 January 21 14:34 GMT (UK)  »
I am beginning to realize that DNA is far from an exact science.
My Grandfather was German and his line can be tracked back hundreds of years.
My DNA (Ancestry) showed I was 23% German which seemed to match what one would expect.

However a recent "readjustment" by Ancestry now shows me as only 7% German.  After this change I  found some of my 3-4th cousins no longer showed a matched with me.

This tells me that things change depending on the formula used  and results should only be taken a a guide, not hard fact.

Northumberland / Alice or Ted Preston
« on: Saturday 09 January 21 13:44 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Folks,

Trying to located the Preston Family who lived in in Whitley Bay just before WW11.  I have some information they lived on a street called Ilfracombe. Brother/sister called  Ted & Alice Preston born early 1920s, and are both believed deceased now.

Any information would be most helpful, even to confirm the family actually lived there then.

Thanks

Northumberland / Christine Biernacka B:1930 ish
« on: Sunday 30 August 20 20:35 BST (UK)  »
Here is my problem (at least the one I want to mention here).

My immediate Uncle ,John Desmond Barrs (dob 6 Mar 1927) married a Christine in 1964 in the north east. (he has passed some time ago).  My cousin thinks her last name was Robinson but I can find no record for a Christine Robinson marrying a John Barrs in that time period (would be nice to prove).  I have found the above Christine Biernacka marrying a John D. Barrs in 1964 in Northumberland.

Could it be that Robinson is her nee name and she later married a Biernacka?

Of note is the fact that this is John's 2nd marriage. The 1st was to my Aunt, Rita Muras Gibson in 1948).

Realizing that Christine could still be alive and therefore can not be mentioned in this public forum, can anyone give me anything to assist (PM if possible).

Thanks

Richard

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Why does one line of my tree have no DNA matches
« on: Sunday 23 February 20 14:18 GMT (UK)  »
Just a general question.
I have a tree in Ancestry with over 1500 people.  Two lines in my tree are from Germany and there are a number of trees that closely match mine. ( this is supported by copies of actual church records obtained from Germany).
However my DNA only shows matches from one of the lines, nothing from the other at all.
At least 2 of the trees I have been in contact with and they confirm they also have DNA results. On paper they should be 2-3 cousins (a few times removed), however our DNA does not match at all.
What am I missing ( unless someone had a child out of wedlock or from an illicit affair).

Any thoughts would be most welcome.
