Lancashire / * Sinclair
« on: Friday 13 April 18 13:34 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help?

I am trying to trace a * Sinclair, who was born around 1943, possibly in Liverpool, but he appears to have lived in Liverpool in the early 1960s, at Ingleton Road, Kirby.

We think he had a brother * and a sister *?

Would love to hear from anyone who knows this family.

Many thanks.

Occupation Interests / Nursing Qualification Acronyms
« on: Monday 02 January 17 18:50 GMT (UK)  »
My great aunt has the following acronym M.R.B.N.A in the nursing register - does anyone know what it stands for.  None of the current list of acronyms seem to contain it, so I guess it must be a historic classification.

Many thanks in anticipation.

Given the recent announcement of the demise of TMG, I am currently researching alternatives and not having much fun.  The ones I am considering are Legacy, Family Historian, Family Tree Maker and Roots Magic.

Roots Magic is the only one that does a direct import from TMG project files, but doesn't having the geographic mapping that many of the others do.  TMG allows 'family' events/facts to be created (with associated roles), but these don't seem to be included in GEDCOM files and the prospect of re-entering all that data (on the software that will allow it) is horrifying.  Family Tree Maker doesn't provide a trial version, so I have no way of evaluating it.

Does anyone have any advice, suggestions or opinions ... any would be welcome, preferably before I have pulled all my hair out.

My grandfather (who I never knew) was born in 1900 in Leicestershire, England and, on the 10/02/1925 he boarded the ship 'The Borda' from London, bound for Melbourne.  On 13/12/1929 he returned to London (apparently from Melbourne) on the ship 'The Mongolia' which left Sydney (Pyrmont) on 30/10/1929.  I have always been intrigued to know what he did, where he was living etc. during the time he was in Australia, but have no real idea where to start.  Rumours say that he was working on a sheep farm and indeed his occupation (following his return) was a wool warehouseman.  If anyone has any suggestions on where I might start, I would be eternally grateful.  ;D

Leicestershire / Coroners Inquests - 1961
« on: Friday 09 October 09 10:13 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone know whether it is possible to obtain details of a coroners inquest that took place on 11th October 1961 in the Southern District of Leicestershire.  It relates to the death of my great-grandfather, who died the previous day, in Market Harborough.

I have a feeling that, because it's relatively recent, it may not be possible to see actual details, but I'm just curious to see where I can go from here.

Thanks to anyone which can assist  :D

Leicestershire Lookup Requests / Mountsorrel Parish Registers
« on: Wednesday 12 August 09 09:02 BST (UK)  »
If anyone has a copy of the Mountsorrel burials, I am looking for a Susan Dorothy Sturgis who died 28/11/1893.

Any other Sturgis/Sturgess/Bishop entries in the register would also be helpful, but I appreciate that this takes times.

Many thanks,

Julia Sturgis.

Immigrants & Emigrants - General / Possible Emigration - Ezekial P Sexton
« on: Tuesday 03 March 09 09:20 GMT (UK)  »
Ezekial Peter P Sexton was born in 1856 (in Hockwold, Norfolk, England), the illegitimate son of Martha Sexton (b. Circa 1840 in Brampton, Norfolk, the daughter of William and Mary Sexton).  He was baptised on 07/07/1856 in St. James Parish Church, Wilton, Norfolk, England.

In 1860, Martha married a John Clipperton and, although I have been unable to trace them on the 1861 census, I have them on the 1871, 1881, 1891 and 1901 census returns firstly in Oulton, Norfolk before subsequently moving to Blickling, Norfolk.  Ezekial does not appear on these returns at any point.

However, in 1861, Ezekial appears (aged 5) on the census, either visiting or living with his uncle Stephen Sexton and his wife Sophia, in Oxnead, Norfolk.

In 1879, Ezekial marries Louisa Alice Brooks in St. Pancras, London and they have 2 daughters, Catherine Ellen (b. 1880) and Ada Louisa (b. 1882) – both daughters were baptised in Blickling, Norfolk on the same day (17/08/1884) and the baptism entry suggests they were living in London at the time.

I cannot find Ezekial, Louisa and their eldest daughter Catherine (who would have been 1 year old) on the 1881 census, although in 1891, their daughters Catherine and Ada are both living with their grandparents John and Martha Clipperton in Blickling, Norfolk and they are nowhere to be found.  Similarly, in 1901, Ezekial and Louisa have disappeared – no record of deaths are recorded on the GRO indexes.

It has been rumoured by members of the family that he either changed his name, emigrated to Germany or somewhere else and I am at a loss as to where to go next.

Can anyone help?
Yours desperate!!!!

Travelling People / NEALE Travelling Family
« on: Wednesday 25 February 09 11:29 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for help in finding additional information about a JAMES NEALE (b. 1842, Aylsham, Norfolk) who appears to have become a traveller (having been born into a family of Agricultural Labourers) sometime between 1861 and 1881.  He married between 1865 and 1870 and subsequently had 12 children in various locations (Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridge, Essex and London).

He is listed on the 1881 census (in a Caravan in Norwich) as a General Deal, in 1891 he is at the Great Yarmouth Fair, listed as a Steam Circus Proprietor and then by 1901 he is in Hockering, Norfolk working on his own account in a travelling bazaar.  I am currently unable to locate him on the 1871 census.

I have tried some of the links in this forum ("Paulines Lists" looked the most interesting), but most of them appear to be broken.

Can anyone help me with this family or point me in the right direction.

Many Thanks.
