She married John Jeffrey about 1750 and I have a record of their son James being born in Duns

If anyone can help I'be very grateful.  John's parents would be a boon too, if possible.

Thank you for your time,

Midlothian / Elizabeth Shaw of Gilmerton
« on: Monday 08 April 19 08:15 BST (UK)  »
Would anyone have access to the OPR's for Gilmerton for about 1814-5.
Elizabeth Shaw had an Illegitimate son David about 1815 and I wondered if there is anything in the records to indicate the father and what punishment she recieved.

David married Margaret Smith in Newton in 1832.

I'd really appreciate help
Thanks,

Kent / A marriage mystery, help please
« on: Saturday 02 June 18 05:53 BST (UK)  »
Hi Everyone,

For sometime now I've been looking for the marriage of my Granparents Isaac Samuel/s b. 1850 in Whitechapel area and  Mary Warn(various spellings) b. 1853 Northfleet, Kent.

Issac was Jewish and Mary was not.  I can find no record of their marriage tho' I'm sure they would have been.  The marriage was supposed to be in 1872.

Certainly they are on all the census from 1881on.

Can anyone solve this mystery please, because I'm stumped.  ???

Thanks for your interest

Hi all,

I wonder if someone can help?  I have found my ancestor Alexander Horsburgh b. abt 1536 appears to be married to Christian d/o William Stewart and Christian Hay.  I have found no proof of this except an piece talken from a document called the Peebles Protocols

This piece makes reference to Christian's mother Lady Traquair and her brother John paying 100 merks of the tocher.
"In February, 1552, there is recorded a contract of marriage between Alexander Horsbruk of that Ilk, John and Robert Horsburgh, his brothers, and Janet and Christian, his sisters, on the one part, and Christian Hay, Lady Traquair, and John Stewart, her son, on the other part, in which Lady Traquair acknowledges that she is due to the said Alexander Horsbruk one hundred merks of the tocher promised to him with Christian Stewart, her daughter, and 20 pounds to his brothers and sisters. [Peebles Protocols.]. "

Does anyone know where to find these documents or know about this marriage.

Hoping someone can help.
Thank you,

Cornwall Lookup Requests / lookup please-- RASHLEIGH
« on: Sunday 03 July 11 05:11 BST (UK)  »
Hello all,

I am trying to find the parents of William RASHLEIGH b. abt 1806, Cornwall.

Married  Elizabeth Carter 7 Oct 1833 Budock, Cornwall.

1841 census he was living in Kenwyn, Truro at that time.

There are several William Carters born abt that time so it's rather confusing.  I did look him up on the Cornwall BMD site, which told me one of the witnesses of his marriage was a Thomas Rashleigh, but there is no mention of whether he was the Father.

I am interested in Elizabeth Carter too as some census say she was born in Cornwall and others say London.

Hope some one can help please :)

Thanks in advance for your consideration
Regards,

South Africa / Hargreaves born in Kimberley S A 1851
« on: Friday 13 May 11 10:28 BST (UK)  »
Hello all,

I have come across an ancestor (of a friend for whom I am doing some research) who according to the English 1901 census was born in Kimberley S A abt 1851.

I have searched the passenger lists for the name Hargreaves and cannot find any going to or coming from S A.

His name is Herbert Hargreaves and he married Mary Wright in Keighly Yorkshire in 1893, so must have come to the U K before that date.

Has anyone any ideas on what to look at next?

Would really appreciate help,
Marybeth44
