Monmouthshire / No named father on Marriage Certificate
« on: Thursday 26 April 12 02:04 BST (UK)  »
Received 'official' copy from GRO in today's mail. Marriage took place in June instead of May given on online transcript for this parish. Not really a big deal but was hoping to have more information.

On both the transcript I found online and the "official" copy, there is NO FATHER listed for my groom... John Watkins. (m Elizabeth Syke June 18, 1857 in Llantillo Crosseney)

There is a baby John born to an unmarried girl and one  born to a "George" Watkins & his wife, Mary that falls into that time period. That George died before this marriage took place.

Would John be the son of the unmarried female with no name for father..... or is he the son of George who died before his marriage?? What reasons would there be for not listing the father. Any way to find out for sure if this means he was 'base born.'??????

1861 census says he was born in Llantillo Crosseney
1871 says Llanvihangel, Monmouthshire, Wales
1881 just says "Monmouth"

Help!!!

Bedfordshire / Blane or Blain
« on: Wednesday 07 March 12 20:26 GMT (UK)  »
Husband's 3rd GGrandfather:

John Blane: b. Sandy, Bedfordshire in 1821

I have parents as Fanny (?) and Thomas Blane/Blain
One brother, James b. 1843  - am guessing he is a brother - could be a nephew. James is on 1851 census with Fanny &  Thomas

Fanny is a widow on two later census' living with John & family.

I have him on 1851 - 1901 census

Wife: Elizabeth / Betsy Williamson
Children: Charles, George, Ann, Leah,John, William, Walter, Rosa, Annie E

Looking for death date: I found one for 1901 but it gives a birth year as 1830. A year or two off would be understandable
Birth date through all census records are consistant.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance!!

Moses Adolpus Bate(s) and Leah Blane (Blain, Blaine)

She is not on '71 census with her family but as a servant with Carter family in Girtford, Bedfordshire.

He is sometimes listed as "Moses" and others as "Adolphus"  He is on '71 census as a servant in Frampton on Severn for the Turner family.

Their first child was born in 1873, so would be sometime betwen '71 census and '73 birth

They immigrated to the US in late 1800's

I am really confused!  ???

I would like to get a copy of my husband's 3rd Great Grandfather's Will. I have his information from Ancestry.com re: his death record  & information from the Probate Calendar. Have been to the GRO site and National Archives.....

I have been going round in circles. It is especially confusing to someone unused to the terms, names for places, etc.  Who holds the wills for you purchase copies from???

Am having trouble with John Watkins b. Llantillo Crosseney, Monmouth abt 1826

I believe, from parish records, his parents may be George & Mary Watkins, yet there is a John & Margaret Watkins wth a son son (about that age) on the 1841 Llantillo Crosseney census who it says was also, born there.

Yet, on Parish Records I cannot find a John & Margaret Watkins w/a son baptised around that time.

I need help finding proof of which are parents... John & Margaret or George & Mary!

Looking for help with marriage record for

John Watkins b. about 1828 in Llantillo Crosseney and

Elizabeth Sykes (Sikes) b about 1836 in Herefordshire. (Father Henry Sykes)

On the  Llanbedr, Crickhowell 1861 census they are next door to her father, Henry Sykes. Their eldest son, Alfred was born about 1857. Am guessing marriage would be about 1856-7.

Their son, Thomas was my husband's great grand dad - shown on my profile.

Thanks in advance!
