Renfrewshire / Robert Carswell/Margaret Jap & Robert Carswell/Agnes Waugh
« on: Saturday 08 October 16 22:45 BST (UK)  »
I am interested in getting in touch with any Carswell males descended from Robert Carswell (1752 -1805)/Margaret Jap & Robert Carswell (b.1787)/Agnes Waugh m. 1810. Both couples were from Neilston, and father and son.

I see some people have the elder Robert's brother, John (b.1785) marrying Mary Lang. However, he appears to have died before the 1841 Census and so annoyingly there is also no stat. death certificate. I am interested in tying up the details of some of the Carswells from Neilston/Ayr to see which lineages they are from (of the 6 currently identified) in the Carswell DNA Project that can also be accessed via Family Tree DNA.com....

So if you are male and considering Y DNA test to at least 37 marker level or already have done - and/or you documentary evidence to confirm the John born 1785 was the one who married Mary Lang it would be great to hear from you

Cheers

Antrim / Alexander Carswell of Georgia (1727 -1803)
« on: Friday 15 April 16 20:13 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have seen numerous pedigrees on-line stating that Alexander Carswell's parents were William Carswell/Ann Douglas and his grandfather was also a William. Apparently they moved to Ireland in 1701 and lived in Antrim or County Clare (source unknown)

As such trees can often be misleading or incorrect (I have spotted one fairly glaring error already which even preliminary research shows is incorrect) - I would like to establish where this information came from - is it credible? What is the date of this information? I would be grateful if someone can point me in the right direction so I can verify or negate this information.

I am also interested in James Robert Carswell (b.1750, stated to be in Georgia). This information came from a family bible and I would like to track down a scan of this family bible to examine the style of the handwriting, which may give a clue as to who started the bible - father or son, for example, and of course the publisher and date of the bible may also provide information.

Many thanks,

Con
