Library and FHS Lookups / Eckington Baptism Look Up Request Please
« on: Tuesday 29 May 12 09:48 BST (UK)  »
Hi

If anyone is planning a trip to Matlock Records Office or Eckington Library would you be so kind as to look up a baptism for Marjorie Elizabeth Wood. She was born at 34 Manvers Road Beighton in October 1916.
I found her baptism on Findmypast. It says Eckington Registration District Chesterfield Reference Number ECK /123 / 119 in 1916. This could be Oct / Nov / December. I have been told the church would have been St Peter and St Paul Eckington.

Thank you so much, any help is very much appreciated.

Kind Regards

My husband's grandfather left Bollington in Cheshire around 1930s. He had family in Murwillumbah  who said he stayed awhile then 'shot through' never to be heard from again. At this time he sent photos back to his family in Bollington showing him cutting sugar cane and picking bananas in Murwillumbah. In all this time no one has heard anything about him except he may have settled in Sydney. We would love to know what happened to him. He may be have been on the voting register in the 30s 40s.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Derbyshire / Longdon Square, Spring Gardens, Buxton
« on: Sunday 29 April 12 21:22 BST (UK)  »
Hi

At the side of Boots Chemist, Spring gardens, Buxton is a passageway that leads to a listed building. It was here at number 4 Longdon Square that my mother was born in 1913. Her mother was Gladys Katherine Wood and she worked at the Grove Hotel. I think Gladys maybe lodged at this address while she gave birth before handing the baby over to someone else to raise, and returning to work at the Grove, she was only 17 years old.

The mystery is who raised mum from birth untill 1926 when she arrived in Ashton under lyne  age 13 to live with John Thomas and Mary Riley.

If anyone has any idea who lived at 4 Longdon Square it would be brilliant.

There was no one listed at this address in the electoral roll....maybe there wasn't anyone living there who was eligible to vote. I have no idea how to find out who lived there in november 1913. I have traced both sides of my mum's family way back, and there is no connection to the Riley's.

Please help if you can.

Staffordshire / Steps Farm Warslow
« on: Thursday 26 April 12 23:22 BST (UK)  »
Hi ,

during my research into Warslow in the 1860s I have come upon Steps Farm.  What I would like to know is if there was an area also called Steps, as I have come upon this as an address on birth certificates. it simply states... Address, Steps, Warslow. The name on three certificates is Riley, but at this time Steps farm was occupied by the Gould family. Soooo... this is why I would love to know if  Steps is are was also a place.

Thanks for any help that maybe forth coming

Hi
Does anyone have any information on John Thomas and Mary Riley of 2 Boyds Building , Gorsey Lane,  Ashton. They were born at Warslow and Fawfieldshead, Staffordshire.

Also their daughter Sarah who married Harry Marland in 1915,and went to live in New Mills / Disley.

What  I really want to know is if anyone knows of children who went to live with the Riley's at their address or the Marlands in New mills. This would be in the 1920s.

Please could anyone tell me how to discover who lived at 34 Manvers road Beighton in 1916. The registration district was Chesterfield.
My Aunt was born here . Her mother came to this address  from Buxton to give birth to her. She must have stayed here for just a short while, before returning to her job at the Grove Hotel Buxton. Their name was Wood.
Any help would be very much appreciated as I have no idea how to go about this.

Cheshire / New Mills Marland/Riley Family
« on: Friday 20 April 12 15:49 BST (UK)  »
Trying to contact the family of Charles Marland and Sarah and Harry Marland.  If you would be so kind as to get in touch with me I am sure we will both have invaluable information to share. Sarah's parents were my mum Edith's 'adopted' family. She lived with John Thomas and Mary Riley at 2 Boyds Building Hazelhurst Ashton from the age of 13 in 1926. A little boy named Charlie also came to live here, this could possibly be Charles Marland. I would dearly love to know. Charlie signed my mum's friendship book in 1928 / 1929. Also signed is UNCLE HARRY NEW MILLS and AUNTY SARAH 1928.
In later  years around early 50s mum would take my older sisters to visit 'Aunt Sally and Uncle Harry' in New mills.

In John and Mary Rileys grave is also Alice Ruth Marland. My sister and I visited the grave last week.

Look forward to hearing from anyone with information on these lovely people.

Regards

Lynn
