Antrim / Patrick McLaughlin Ballycastle
« on: Wednesday 25 November 20 14:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hello can anyone point me in the right direction.
I am trying to obtain the exact date of birth for Patrick McLaughlin in order that I can apply for a birth certificate.
Limited Army records shows that Patrick was born in 1880 in Ballycastle County Antrim, other records suggest that it could be plus or minus by about one year.
I know that he died in France on 27-10-1914, ( Service number 5736, 2nd BTN RIR).  I have no details for his parents.
Any advice please would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Derry (Londonderry) / Help with placement of adopted / fostered children
« on: Friday 18 October 13 12:35 BST (UK)  »
Hello can forum experts / users advise my next step.
Sorry for the long message, but it will help set the full picture.

I have posted a similar request in August 2012; however I am now in possession of some updated information.

I am trying to trace the family and the location that adopted my grandfather William (Willy McLaughlin) and his siblings. The children are as follows:
William (Willy) McLaughlin
John Rodgers (a child from Catherine’s first marriage)
James McLaughlin
Catherine McLaughlin
Eliza (Jane) McLaughlin.

All now deceased.

The family of 5 children, three boys and two girls were orphaned in 1915. their father Patrick was killed in WW1 in 1914 and their mother Catherine died in 1915.
The family originally lived in Ballycastle and appear on the 1911 census.

The children were placed with a family / persons unknown in Coleraine, (apparently just outside it, on the Portrush Road) after 1st April 1915.
The children attended the Irish Society Primary School in Coleriane

Now, here is my research so far.

I have contacted the Orange Order (as I believe that my grandfathers dad was a member) in order to see if any of the lodge members in the area took them in, however despite being really helpful, they had no records for that period.

I have contacted the local social services for the area re adoptions / fostering and again they have no trace.

I have contacted the Irish Society Primary School and again they don’t have records for that time anymore.

I have contacted the local historical society and again very helpful but no trace.

I have managed to trace one family member via this forum, who interestingly enough was searching for the exact same thing as I am, but like me is having no joy.

Any advice re what my next step could be?

As usual thanks in advance.

Fermanagh / Marriage in Cashel RC church, Co Fermanagh
« on: Wednesday 16 October 13 09:52 BST (UK)  »
Hello.

Can anyone help with this marriage search?

I am trying to trace the marriage of Patrick MAGUIRE and Catherine JONES
The marriage took place at Cashel RC church, Fermanagh.
The church is located between the villages of Garrison and Belcoo.

Patrick’s parent’s names are Philip and Anne (nee McManus)
Catherine’s parent’s names are Louis and Catherine (nee Macgovern / McGovern)

The bride Catherine was born in 1900 and Patrick died in 1937. The first child of the marriage was born 1925, so I believe that the marriage could possibly have taken place any time between say 1916 and 1925.

I have tried both names on Family search and Irish Roots .ie but no joy.
However I know for certain that the marriage took place at the above location,

Any help or pointers would as usual be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

« on: Friday 23 August 13 11:56 BST (UK)  »
Hello there.
Does anyone have any information or interest on the following person, (my great grandmother)
Catherine JONES (nee McGOVERN)
born circa 1851, Glenfarne, Co Leitrim
Her husbands forename was Owen, according to the census she had 9 children

I know that she moved to Tievebunnan / Teebunion following her marriage.
This is roughly between Garrison and Belcoo in Fermanagh

I have her in the 1911 census

I enclose a picture (moderator feel free to remove if not correct for this forum)

Antrim / Census returns for Soldiers
« on: Tuesday 06 August 13 11:13 BST (UK)  »
Hello there.
I have posted this in the Antrim section as that is where I think my relative comes from, but mod, please feel free to move to the correct forum.

If a soldier was posted overseas or potentially in any Army Barracks at the time of the 1901 Census, without knowing the exact location, is there anyway of specfically searching for Army personal in the census, or where they subject to their "own" type of internal census.

Thanks again in advance.

Derry (Londonderry) / The Marriages of William Kerr
« on: Tuesday 09 July 13 22:21 BST (UK)  »
Hello.
Can anyone help me or guide me to the right place for this information.
I am trying to locate the maiden name and date /location of the marriage of the Rebecca Jane Kerr who was married to William Kerr. Jane is shown as being from Donegal.
She appears in both censuses.
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Londonderry/Lower_Liberties/Ballynagollagh/1538308/
AND
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Londonderry/Liberties__Lower/Ballynagalliagh/604512/.
I know that there are children associated to the address, one being Catherine Simpson (nee Kerr), she doesn’t shown up anywhere. The census in 1911 shows that there were  no children associated to the marriage, which leads me to believe that William was married previously, and it’s that marriage that I believe children have come from.
Is there anyway of locating who / when / where  William was married to the first time around, although we don’t have the brides details.

Thanks as always

Antrim / The Marriage of Robert Hutchinson, Larne County Antrim
« on: Saturday 30 March 13 09:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hello.
Can anyone help with a date, place for this marriage. (Also I really need to confirm brides pre wedding surname if possible)
The groom would have been Robert Hutchinson, bride would have been Jane (Jeannie) Birth surname Kerr, first marriage surname Simpson.
I have them in the 1911 census in main street Larne, the census shows that they had been married ten years
Here's the link
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Antrim/Larne/Main/195692/
They also appear as married at the same location in 1901. So i am thinking that year of marriage was prior to (and including 1901). Sorry I have no exact date of birth for the bride or groom. However taken from the census, it would make her roughly 34 at time of marriage

The bride is originally from just outside Derry City, but I think the wedding took place in County Antrim.
As usual , thanks in advance.
