I have an online Beginner's Guide to Genetic Genealogy that is really for beginners: http://tinyurl.com/geneticgenealogyguide

There are currently 14 Lessons and more may be added. I wrote these in response to repeated requests on the DNA Newbie List. I thought I would post here. These are FREE online and there is no homework :D

They are my gift back to the greater genealogy community.

They start from the beginning and try to make a complex subject understandable without too much jargon. Hope they help someone!

Devon / Woolfardisworthy 1323 Lay Subsidy which one in Devon
« on: Monday 10 September 12 00:15 BST (UK)  »
I have a question. I copied a William Wheatena from the 1323 Lay Subsidy Rolls but now I'm not sure if it is the one near Bideford or the one closer to Crediton. I'm about 1,000 miles away from the resource so if anyone can check or knows I'd much appreciate it.

Thanks in Advance

I am looking for WHEATON males of Devon. Depending on your lineage I will make available FREE Y-DNA test kits of 12-37 markers a value of $99-$169 US.

We have at least 3 Wheaton/Wheadon lines in Devon and a perfect match with a Hancock of South Molton. Looking for other possible matches to the early Wheatons of Devon. We are looking for parentage of a Robert Wheaton born about 1605-1610 who immigrated to the colonies about 1636. Earliest Wheaton of record is in 1298.

Robert Wheaton may have had some relationship with Non-conformists. Or with Governor John Endicott who was the son of Thomas Endicott of Chagford, Devon. John was married in Chard and was part of the Dorchester Company who immigrated to Salem, Massachusetts.

Also interested in communicating with anyone with Wheaton ancestry particularly those of North Devon. Particular Parishes of interest:
South Molton,
Ifracombe
Tiverton
Ashreigney
Winkleigh
Lapford
Sandford
Okehampton
Crediton

It is not clear whether all Exeter Wheatons are of the Sidmouth line. Only way to sort them out is through DNA testing.

If you are a HANCOCK from North Devon please contact me.

Norfolk Lookup Requests / Weedon Wheaton Contacts in Norfolk
« on: Friday 20 April 12 15:19 BST (UK)  »
I am searching for current contact information on any Weedon, Wheadon, Weeton or Wheaton  living in Norfolk. The Weedons seem to have been living in the area south of Norwich in the 1500-1600's and I am hoping to locate a descendant of this family. If you know someone or have a listing from a phone or business directory I would greatly appreciate your messaging me with this information. I am not sure whether they bear any relationship to Whatton or Whitton families. Any help appreciated.

I live in the united States and have been searching for the connection between the Robert Wheaton who immigrated here in 1636 and his kin in England for nearly 40 years. We originally thought his roots were in Devon but DNA testing has proved otherwise. It looks more likely that his roots were in Lancashire, possibly York or Norfolk.

The changes in spelling make the searching tricky and record keeping was not as good back then. However a very unique Y-DNA signature makes relationship easy to confirm if we find the right family. For the right candidate the test will be free.

Thanks in advance. This is one solvable mystery but it is going to take some serendipity.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Weeton Contact information
« on: Friday 20 April 12 15:04 BST (UK)  »
I am searching for current contact information on any Weeton, Wheaton  living in Lancashire. The Weetons seem to have been quite prevalent in the Kirkham/Weeton area in the 1500-1600's and I am hoping to locate a descendant of this family. If you know someone or have a listing from a phone or business directory I would greatly appreciate your messaging me with this information.

All spellings welcome worldwide.
The Wheaton Surname DNA Project is a year old and we have nearly 30 results from England, USA, Canada and Australia.

We have 3 results from men in England, 2 from Australia and the remainder from USA and Canada. We have connected the Wheadons of America with the Wheadons of Australia and Devon.

The Wheatons of Devon with the Wheatons of Australia.

We have several Wheaton/ Wettons from Staffordhsire.

We have a large group of Wheatons with unusual markers and we would like to find their origins in England. Suspected locales are the Weetons of Lanacshire or the Weedons of Norfolk but it could be anywhere. The men that descend from a Robert Wheaton who came from England to Salem, Massachusetts in 1636. Please help us connect these folks to their ancestors in England! This has been a 40 year odyssey.

FREE testing for select Wheatons (any spelling) of England may be available. Please see my website or contact me.
