Census Lookup and Resource Requests / Edinburgh 1841 Census
« on: Thursday 13 November 14 01:31 GMT (UK)  »
Can someone please find on the 1841 Census for Edinburgh: John Maxwell, born in Belfast, Ireland. He married Jane Brown in Boardmills, Belfast in the year 1800. They must have moved to Edinburgh between 1800 & 1811 as there son John was born there in 1811. His elder brother Thomas is our direct ancestor who emigrated to New Zealand c1826, (no records for him). John Jnr. married in Belfast but his death record states he was born in Edinburgh. We are hoping to find out more about John Snr. & Jane, - where they lived, occupation, other siblings, when they died. They were Presbyterian.

Down / Boardmills,Killaney civil parish(Maxwell and Brown)
« on: Monday 06 January 14 01:41 GMT (UK)  »
John Maxwell married Jane Brown at the (1st) Presbyterian Church in Boardmills, Belfast, on 13th July 1800.
Children Thomas b? and John Jnr.b'1811.
I am right to presume this is Boardmills in the townland of Carrickmaddyroe in the civil parish of Killaney, County Down.
Records apparently exist of this church, Ros Davies Co Down website gives baptisms 1782-1889, marriages 1782-1844 etc..
Has anyone seen these records?
Apparently familysearch copied them.
I would love to know John and Janes parents & where Thomas and John Jnr. were born. Indeed, all information about them both.
The family moved to Edinburgh. Thomas came to New Zealand c1826.
The second Presbyterian Church, Boardmills, was a break away from the first in 1809, but their surviving records don't start until 1836.
My information is gleaned from the death certificate of John Jnr., (brother of Thomas), who died in New Zealand, (Thomas was shipwrecked & drowned there in 1842, no death cert..)
Looking forward to your help,
Averyl.("citrustree")

« on: Monday 18 June 12 07:19 BST (UK)  »
Hello from NZ, having a problem find what I'm looking for, so I'm hoping some kind person can please help!
I'm looking for the parents & occupation of Francis Darke who married Mary Shiles in 1861, in St. Thomas', Heavitree?
Also the occupation & wife etc. of his father James Darke who was born about 1802. His wife is not mentioned on the 1841 census at Newton Abbot but the children are. Any information about her would be appreciated too. Perhaps James remarried?

« on: Monday 20 February 12 21:51 GMT (UK)  »
Having finally established the parents of our ancestor Thomas Maxwell, shipwright? who emigrated to NZ c1826, we are looking for more info about them, whether he had siblings etc.. They were John & Jane Maxwell who lived in Edinburgh. Perhaps they were still alive for the 1841 census so if anyone can find them we would be very happy for the details. Thankyou in anticipation.

London and Middlesex / 1871 Islington look-up please
« on: Friday 06 January 12 06:14 GMT (UK)  »
Could some kind person look up the 1871 Census for Charles Francis Avery WESTON who was born about 1864.
As his parentage is unknown as yet, we would like the names of those in the same household so we have a clue to his parents.
His grandmother, Rebecca Johnson nee Weston lived on Oakley Rd. in Islington.

Midlothian / Edinburgh early census lookup please.
« on: Saturday 11 June 11 06:48 BST (UK)  »
We are looking for Maxwells in Edinburgh. Thomas emigrated to NZ c 1826, drowned 1842, no death cert. available or possible. His brother John(jnr.) emigrated to NZ in 1853 but married & lived in Belfast c1842, where his children were born. We got John's death cert. which has no date of birth, died 1887 aged 76. So, he was born c1811 in Edinburgh.
Their parents were John & Jane Maxwell nee Brown.
We are hoping they were still living for the earliest census & if so, would like to know their place of residence, occupation, ages, & if any children were living with them.
If someone can help we would be most appreciative!

« on: Wednesday 08 June 11 02:00 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help me with Walter Alexander Allan who apparently emigrated to New Zealand & was married prior to 1886 to Sarah Braddick.
He originated in Glasgow, perhaps he can be found on a Census or in Parish Records?
We would like to know his parents, father's occupation, address, etc..
We have no other details to go on except that he was born about 1861,(he died in 1931 aged 70).

Fife / Looking for Wan family
« on: Wednesday 08 June 11 01:46 BST (UK)  »
Alexander Wan appears to have emigrated to New Zealand prior to 1875 when he married.
Can anyone help us find where he was born & who his parents were etc..
He died in 1911, aged 62, so must have been born about 1849.
