Aberdeenshire / BURIAL IN PEATHILL CEMETERY
« on: Tuesday 18 September 12 12:27 BST (UK)  »
Trying to find out if my Great Aunt was buried in Peathill like I thought she was.

I live in New Zealand, can only do so much searching on line.

The person I am looking for was Elizabeth (Bessie/Betsy) Doran m/s Ritchie, born 16 January 1895, in Rosehearty and died I think 21 Septmber 1971.   She had seperated / divorced from her husband in the 1960's I believe, quite unusual back in those days.

I dont think she is buried with her parents, in Peathill, they were Joseph Ritchie 1860-1930 & Mary Ann Mitchell 1860-1904.

Any help, much appreciated.

Hi all

Just today I have discovered that my hubby's gt grandmother was born in Yorkshire ( thats all her death certificate said)  in about 1857.

Her parents being James Howarth & Elizabeth Howarth - no m/s recorded, and unfortunately no occupation for James.

Appears that she must have left England with her family at the age of abt 10 yrs old, as she was in New Zealand for 70 years at the time of her death on 28 March 1939 in Lumsden.

Anyone able to help out, would love to hear from you.

Perthshire / David Small & Margaret Niven, Perthshire
« on: Tuesday 01 June 10 03:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Anyone looking into David Small (1796-1866) and Margaret Niven (1805-1859) both are from the Perthshire area.    Just recently started looking into the Smalls.

I believe they had 11 children, the 2nd youngest Andrew born 1847, is my hubby's gt grandfather.  Andrew emigrated down under in 1870 and married Alice Howarth, and they had 14 or 15 children.

Any information appreciated, or if anyone are related love to hear from you.

Kind regards

Maureen ( in New Zealand).

Scotland / Alice Howarth - a mystery ???
« on: Wednesday 21 April 10 11:36 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I have recently started looking into my hubby's family history.    Found out his grandparents were Andrew Small b 1847 in Dunbarney, Perthshire, and an Alice Howarth, place unknown, bc 1857.

Andrew emigrated to NZ in 1870 from Glasgow, and according to NZ BDM they married in 1874, and had 14 children.  Haven't got their marriage cert, as before 1881, NZ marriage certs dont have parents names on them.

According to a printout of their gravestone Alice died 28 March 1939, aged 82 yrs, but cant find her on NZ BDM, neither is her birth.

Another thought she may have been born in the UK, can one help me.

Perthshire / Andrew Small & Alice Howarth, Lumsden, Southland
« on: Monday 19 April 10 05:57 BST (UK)  »

Just recently started looking into my hubby family tree, got back as far as Andrew Small born 1847, he emigrated to New Zealand, in 1870, and settled in Lumsden, Southland, NZ.

He married an Alice Howarth, in 1874, and had 14 children.

I think Andrew's parents were David Small bc 1800 and Margaret Niven bc 1806 both from Perthshire. They also had a large family, 10 that I have found on IGI.  My husband line comes down from their son, Charles born October 1881, who married a Jessie Bridgman in 1911, in Invercargill, NZ

Love to hear from anyone with connections to the above.

Kind regards

Maureen Small ( nee Noble).

Aberdeenshire Lookup Requests / Jane Robertson & Ann Smith
« on: Friday 24 April 09 22:46 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Can any one help me find my gt grandmother Jane Robertson, born 1849 in Peterhead, in the 1861 census.

Just recently discovered that her father, James Robertson b 1818 in Peterhead, was admitted to the Royal Lunatic Asylum in 1855, dying their 7 May 1871.

Cant seem to find Jane or her mother Ann Smith anywhere in 1861.   Ann Smith was born 24 September 1817 in Portessie and died there 18 September 1904.

Can anyone check to see if Ann applied for Poor Relief after her husband was admitted to the Asylum.

Jane married John Lawrence May in 1867, and appears to have had a good life with him, compared to what must have been a very hard time growing up with a father with mental problems and her  family splitting up.

Thanks

Maureen, ( in New Zealand )

Aberdeenshire / Robert Grant & Jane Finnie x Fraserburgh
« on: Friday 13 March 09 04:00 GMT (UK)  »
Has anyone got connections to Robert & Jane "my brickwalls" from around Fraserburgh.

Robert and Jane were both born around 1800-1805, they are my gt gt gt grandparents. Robert died after 1881, havent been able to find his death cert. He was in a widower, in Old Deer aged 79 yrs in the 1881 census. Jane appears to have died before 1851, as Robert is by himself in all the census from 1841-1881.

They had 1 daughter that I have been able to find, Rachel, born 1824 she married George Alexander Buchan in 1847. Have plenty of info about them, but her parents are a real mystery to me.

Can anyone help out.

Kind regards

Maureen, down under in New Zealand.

Aberdeenshire / Jane Robertson b 1849, Peterhead

Hi all

Havent been doing much researching lately, ( enjoying summer time down under).

My great grandmother is Jane Robertson born 1849 in Peterhead ( parents James Robertson 1818-1871 & Ann Smith 1817-1904. Jane married John Lawrence May in July 1867 in Inverallochy.

Recently discovered that her father James Robertson died in 1871 in  the Aberdeen Lunatic Asylum, after being there for 15 yrs - in 1855, when the youngest of James & Ann's 7 children,   was only a year old.

I have Jane aged 2 years in Backgate Street, Peterhead, in the 1851 census, but unable to find her again until 1881 onwards in 12 Main Street, Inverallochy with her husband and growing family ( they had 14 children )   My grandfather was # 8, John May born 1882.

Her father was admitted to the Asylum in 1855, suffering from Domestic Unhappiness and Homicidal, must have been very hard on his wife and children.

Can anyone help me find Jane, her mother and siblings in 1861 & 1871.

It is possible that they may have been in Portessie at some stage, as this was Ann Smith place of birth and death.

Kind regards

Maureen
