The Lighter Side / Registering a death
« on: Friday 28 January 22 15:30 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone know if there is an age limit on registering deaths.

I purchased a death cert for a child who died in 1879 at Newport, South Wales and the informant is his sister who would have been aged 12. This seems very young to me even in those far off days and I've always wondered if it was legal.

All the other deaths (and there were many) were registered by the mother, so I assumed she was too ill and her eldest daughter did it, but so young.

It's not of major importance and won't alter anything, but every time I look at this family I do so wonder.

The Lighter Side / 1939 register

Some of my family told porkies on the 1939 register knocking  a few years off their real age to make them seem younger. Why would they do this? They were women in their 60/70s and at the start of another world war were still working and supporting themselves so why would they need to lie.
Sorry but this really has upset me, they were quiet, unassuming hard working people all their lives so why lie now.

The Lighter Side / Family Search site

Hello all, I've not done any FH research for a while and today went back to it but I'm having problems with the Family History Site (Mormon). It used to be very easy but try as I might I cannot get in, has it changed in some way?

Yorkshire (North Riding) / Help needed with Hall deaths.
« on: Sunday 23 August 15 18:29 BST (UK)  »
Hi, this morning I started out with good intentions but got lost as usual and wandered down side roads so now I'm a bit confused.
On 19th January 1843 George Hall was buried @ St. Cuthbert's, Barton, Yorkshire aged less than 1 year, bless him, and 4 days later on the 23rd January 1843 his father also George Hall was buried at the same church aged 26 years.
Now I know that infant death indeed any death was quite usual in those days but 4 days between them is pushing the bounds of probability. Does anyone know of any epidemic that was around at this time which could explain it.
As I said this is a bit of a side road but eventually this family married into my mother's family and became my family (if you see what I mean).
Hope someone can help
Many thanks
Patty :D
