Hi all,
I am new here and have been researching my family tree and others for the past couple of years. However i am a little stuck and wonder if someone could advise me of what to do next.
My great grandfather was born Emmanuel John Mockridge born 1881 in Weymouth, Dorset, and his mother according to the census and his birth certificate was Eliza Mockridge with no listing of Emmanuels father. However the 1891 census shows Eliza to have married a William Henry Tompkins and it is presumed Emmanuel took his name as the name remains today although is now Tomkins. I have nto been able to ascertain where William's birth place was or anything about him at all.
I am hoping someone can help me with this, I am intrigued to know a little about the man who gave me by maiden name.
