Lancashire Lookup Requests / Elizabeth Hartley born Wray, c1817
« on: Sunday 02 August 20 10:31 BST (UK)  »
Hi, can anyone help me find a Baptism for the above lady?, I have found her in every census living in the Workhouse, although I don't think she was a long term resident, her daughter was born in Caton workhouse on the 14 January 1853 and I have found two other baptisms at St Paul's Caton, for a Henry and Mary Hartley, children of Elizabeth Hartley in the workhouse. I don't know what happened to these last two children, but Jane had left by 1871 and goes on to marry a George Bolton.
I have Elizabeth s death certificate and she died in Hornby and Farleton workhouse on the 4th March 1889,age 72, the informant was the master. any help anyone can give will be much appreciated, Jean.

Lancashire / Death & Burial of Thomas Devine-Salford
« on: Tuesday 16 June 15 11:32 BST (UK)  »
Hi, can anyone help me where to turn to next?, I have just received the death certificate for my great grandfather, Thomas Devine, who died 25th Jul 1905, on the certificate it states there was an inquest dated 28th Jul and he was buried at Weaste Cemetery on the 29th, in a public grave, so I'm told I can't find the plot number. Thomas was still married but there was no mention on his wife on the certificate, but in 1891 he was in Strangeways prison and in 1901, Salford Union Workhouse, ages are wrong on both, but occupation, as a Bricklayer, and birthplace, Salford, match. I have no census records of the two together, so presume they were living apart most of their married life. I have found on the parish records that a service was held at a local RC church before burial, would his wife have had to pay for this? and does anyone know where I can find any more information?, any help appreciated, best wishes, Jean.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Thomas Devine death
« on: Sunday 02 February 14 20:08 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I am trying to find the death of my gg grandfather, Thomas Devine, born 1839, Salford, Lancs, I have his birth certificate and have him in the 1841 to 1881 census, he was a Bricklayer by trade and his wife was Mary Ann Kennedy, although he was never with her in any of the census, they had two children Rosannah and John. I think I have just found him in the 1891 census as an inmate in Strangeways prison although on the index it says he is 25, on the image it looks more like 55, but his occupation is still the same, in 1901 I think I have him in the Salford District Union Workhouse, listed as a Retired Bricklayer but age 71, trouble is I cannot find a death that fits in with him, the only ones I have found that seem to fit are one in 1881, aged 41, but this is not him and one in 1904 in Chorlton, but after sending for certificate this was also not mine, any one help find him in the index to enable me to get the correct certificate?, best wishes, Jean

England / William Douby- Soldier
« on: Friday 30 August 13 09:46 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I'm looking for any information on a William Douby, (could be spelt wrong). I have a marriage certificate for a Mary Johnson dated 10th July 1876 to a James Moores, she is listed as a spinster, but her father is listed as William Douby, a Soldier, I have Mary's baptism at Manchester Cathedral in 1857, where she is listed as the daughter of Victoria Adelaide Johnson, now I have come across Marriage certificates when fathers were made up, but surely she would have given him the same surname as herself, if this was the case. I have looked through census records and can't seem to find any William Douby's spelt like this, can anyone  shed any light on this?, any help would be greatly appreciated, Jean

Hi All, I have just found a burial for a Robert Hannah at Manchester general Cemetery, on 15th August 1852, can anyone give me any more information, ie age of deceased, address etc,
would appreciate any help, best wishes, Jean

Hello, I have hit a brick wall with my great great grandfather, Robert Hannah, born Manchester in 1834, according to the census, he was a Stonemason and on his marriage certificate to Maria Derrick in Manchester,in 1856, his father was Robert, an Excavator. I have searched long and hard through the 1841 census and cannot find my Robert, the only one that seems to be him is living with parents, Robert, a Boot Maker and Mary and siblings, James, William, Jean and Hector, this one seems to be baptised at the cathedral in Manchester in 1830, and his name was Robert Bagshaw Hannah, now there was a Robert Hannah married to a Mary Bagshaw on 4th Oct 1829 at Almondbury, would anyone have the record of this marriage to see if Robert was a Boot maker?, this seems to be the only lead I can follow at moment, but if anyone has any suggestions, they would be more than welcome, best wishes, Jean
