Donegal / Gallaghers of Drumnashammer
« on: Saturday 01 June 13 21:10 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I have come to a bit of halt in my search for the Gallagher family of Drumnashammer.

They are Anthony Gallagher born circa 1840, died 1906. Ann (nee Gallagher) born circa 1838. This complicates matters as I don't know if they were distantly related before they married.

So far, I have the following children: Mary Anne born 1861, Catherine born 1867, Daniel born 1872, Patrick born 1874 and James born circa 1877.

I can find the family in the 1901 and 1911 census but I really would like to know if there were any more children and to where they emigrated? I have looked at various records but Gallagher is a very popular name and if the person didn't specify Drumnashammer, I'm lost!

Any help appreciated.

Tyrone / James Gallagher Newtown Stewart
« on: Saturday 01 June 13 20:44 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I wonder if anyone can help.

I am trying to locate more details for a James Gallagher who was born in Drumnashammer, Co. Donegal, circa 1877. By 1908, he seems to be in Newtown Stewart. In the 1911 census, I think the same James Gallagher lives at 13 Main Street with his wife, Annie and their children. I am having problems locating him in 1901 and I cannot find his marriage details.

In 1911, his children are Annie Josephine, age 4, Andy John, age 2 and Anthony Redmond, age 1.

Any info would be appreciated.

West Lothian (Linlithgowshire) / Menzies Coal Merchants
« on: Monday 05 November 12 20:11 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
I wonder if anyone can help me. From the very limited information I have on a birth certificate, I am trying to investigate if there were any coal merchants/agents in the West Lothian/Edinburgh area with the name: Menzies. This would have been anytime from the 1890's until the 1920's. I am a bit stuck!
Thanks

Kerry / Murphy Family from Valentia Island
« on: Sunday 08 July 12 17:14 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to locate my great geat grandmother's family.
Mary Murphy was born circa 1825. I do not have any birth or marriage records for her but her brother Charles married Julia Goolden on the island and their father was stated as Michael Murphy. Griffiths Valuation has two Michael Murphys
on Valentia but I cannot confirm if one of these men is their father. Charles later had a shop in Knightstown.

Mary married John Keane from the Portmagee area circa 1850. They had 7 children, 5 survived to adulthood.

I cannot find Mary's mother's name or if there were more siblings or if the family originally came from Valentia.

All help gratefully received.

Kerry / Keane Family from Portmagee
« on: Sunday 08 July 12 15:56 BST (UK)  »
I would be grateful for any help locating my great great grandfather's family from the Portmagee area. His name was John Keane and was born circa 1825 in the Ferry/Doory/Portmagee area. I think his father was also John as I found him in the 1834 census in the area. I cannot find any possible siblings for John or his mother's name. My great great grandfather married Mary Murphy circa 1850. She may have come from Valentia Island and I have their childrens' names.

I have come to a brick wall. Any help appreciated.

Donegal / Dohertys of Breenagh
« on: Tuesday 29 May 12 18:17 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I am a new member and I can see there has been some discussion a few years ago about this family but I would be interested if there are any new links or even relatives!

I am the descendant of John Doherty born circa 1817, d 1912. His wife was Alice nee Kelly. I cannot find him in Griffiths. The only Doherty in Breenagh in Griffiths is Madge Doherty and I cannot establish if John is related to her. John and Alice had many children. I don't think I have all their names as they were born before civil registration and not all the church records are available. They definitely had a son, James born circa 1852 who emigrated to Pennsylvania in 1869. Another son, Patrick born circa 1851 stayed in Breenagh and had 13 children. All except one of Patrick's children left Breenagh and went around the world. I have all the names of Patrick's children if required.
