Family History Beginners Board / my granny the cougar

I was excited to get my great grandmothers marriage certificate! She was born May 16 1878 (as stated on her birth certificate) and married on Dec 26 1907.  That makes her 29 and a half,  so why does she say she is only 24?  I guess because her new husband had only just turned 23.(born Oct 1884).  To add to the issue, she then had a baby in Jan 1908 (as far as I can tell from Their Edmonton Alberta census records, which may not be that accurate, but the date works because I am sure of the next baby being born around Oct 09 and christened 23 Jan 1910)

My questions are: how was the social climate for a lady wandering around London very pregnant and very unmarried?  What are the chances that her new, quite young husband was actually the father of the child?  Did ages of spouses matter that much back then?  Lastly, how can I be sure I am ordering the right birth record for their child when I am unsure of when and where the birth actually happened, and when there are many girls with similar names (I thought her name was Helen but travel and census documents vary from Frances E (for Ellen?) to Frances Helen Robinson.

Frances Mary Adams and George Robinson lived at #15 Garrick St. Covent Garden on their marriage cert.   Frances Mary was born in Hunslet York.  George was born in Hampton Middlesex.  The little sister was christened 23 Jan 1910 at St Andrews, Peckham Surrey.  I see a probable birth for her in Camberwell in DEC 1909.

Any ideas?

Mary

Family History Beginners Board / Fanny Adams and George Robinson

I have ordered a(hopefully the right one) marriage certificate for my great grandmother, Francis Mary Adams,  who was married in "Strand" Dec 1907 to George Robinson (middle name probably Sidney) 1b1124.  The only info my family has is that George was a footman in a "Royal House", and she was a Pastry Chef.  They met at work, ran a candy store, then emigrated to Canada with their two kids.  George died within a year of German measles.  Any advice on how i can find which "Royal House" they worked in?She lived in Sheffield, he lived in Lambeth when he was 16.

England / accuracy of canadian passenger lists

I am searching for George Robinson who married Francis Mary Adams in 1907.  They came to Canada around 1910 with their two young daughters, Helen and Elsie May.  I think they arrived in Nova Scotia on April 7 1911 on the Virginian from Liverpool.  however, Helen is not listed as travelling with them, but they  have recorded a young boy of 2or 3 (i cant read it) named Francis Robinson.  What are the chances that they were mistaken in recording the kids names, and that the young Francis is really Helen?  I'm pretty sure it is them, as George had a brother named Ernest who is also listed as being with them.

England / accuracy of historical records

I'm pretty new to this and am amazed at the inaccuracy of ages in census records and such.  Did nobody know their own birth year or age?   ???
