United States of America / Best Place for Revolutionary War Records
« on: Tuesday 16 June 20 06:20 BST (UK)  »
Hello! So, I am doing some research into my ancestry and our participation in the Revolutionary War. I have traced back to two of my ancestors, my 7th great grandfathers Israel McBee and Captain Daniel Huddleston. The more I dig the more fascinating these two seem to get to read up on and I was curious if anyone had additional resources or databases you'd recommend for tracking records and stories on colonial ancestors. Apparently Israel McBee was one of the only Revolutionary veterans to also live to see the beginning of the Civil War, dying at the age of 110. I found one record that stated Captain Daniel Huddleston served under President Washington and reported to John Adams as well, working as a Captain of a ship in the colonials Navy. I would love to learn more about these stories if I can -- just don't know where to start beyond googling the names. Thank you again!

FH Documents and Artefacts / Civil War Confederate Journal
« on: Saturday 01 September 12 19:30 BST (UK)  »
Hello, my name is Andy Southern.

I recently helped clean out my grandfather's house and took a few boxes of old family items back home with me. In it, I discovered a 27 page (typed on a type writer) retelling of my 4th great grandfather's experiences as a soldier in the Civil war, fighting for the Confederacy, as well as when he was wounded at Vicksburg. It is truly fascinating and well written, as he was a well off attorney. I am wondering if anyone here can offer me advice on where I can go with it. I am scanning the whole of it onto my computer and would love to find a place online where I can upload it, make it readable to others, and hear other's opinions on it and maybe learn more about him. If anyone has any advice on what I can do to help preserve his story I would greatly appreciate it.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Need Help deciphering 1800's era letters
« on: Wednesday 20 June 12 20:17 BST (UK)  »
Hello, I have found many very old letters at the bottom of a box my grandfather gave me. I would love some help deciphering what these say. Most are in English but two are in German, if anyone can help deciphering German.

The following links are direct links to the images, if someone could tell me how to embed the links that would be awesome!

World War One / Need help identifying WW1 Uniform
« on: Wednesday 20 June 12 19:23 BST (UK)  »
Hello, my name is Andrew Southern. Recently I was helping my grandma clean out some of her stuff and found an old envelope. Inside were a few documents and pictures. She didn't know anything about them, all I can say is that she is German. Among the photos were two photos of a man in some sort of German military uniform (looks like WW1 to me). The back says his name is Rudolph Drews. One was taken by a place called "Fritz Hartwig" and the other by "C. Utecht, Berlin". I would love it if I could get help identifying the military rank of him, and anything else we can find out. I also have some naturalization records, and birth records from Germany if you would like to see those. Thanks and please let me know.
