Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / birth of Sarah SMITH c 1821 Nottm
« on: Friday 12 August 05 02:17 BST (UK)  »
Sarah's 1842 marriage certificate names her father as John Smith (waterman).

The 1861 census states Sarah, age 41, was born St Mary, Nottm

The 1871 census identifies John as "gdfather" & "Rachel" as "gdmother" in the home of Sarah's daughter, Maria, & his birthplace is given as Newark, Notts while Rachel's is given as Colchester, Essex.

When I worked backwards from 1871, the 1861 census for John has Rachel spelled RACHAEL. and I found an IGI record for the marriage of JOHN SMITH to RACHAEL PALMER 18 Mar 1827.

However, if this is the right couple, the c 1821 birth (1861-41) of Sarah, does not fit.  I did not find an IGI record that fit, either.

Does anyone have another source that would help me?

Antrim / Marriage registration - McClune /Todd
« on: Thursday 11 August 05 05:03 BST (UK)  »
Could someone look up the marriage (presumably in Belfast) of JAMES TODD b 17 Nov 1850 & ELIZABETH MCCLUNE, sometime between 1869 & 1877.

James' father, Samuel was buried in Rashee, although I am not certain that is where James was born.  His mother's name was Martha (nee ?).  James was a 'master slater' in Belfast & his business was on Percy St.

As for Elizabeth McClune, I have her as born 22 Jun 1852, but I must have received that date early on because I did not note who gave it to me.  I do not know where she was born, but there were several McClunes in Antrim & Down in the  1848 - 1864 - GRIFFITHS VALUATION OF IRELAND (also one in Fermanagh and one in Armagh).  On one of her children's birth certificates, her surname is mis-spelled MCLOON.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as the McClune line is the only one on which I have made ZERO progress.  :'(

The Common Room / Antrim or Down marriage 1863-67

Is it possible to find the marriage of JOHN JOSEPH GIBSON b Aug 1845 in Manchester, who "ran away to Ireland to marry".
His first known child was born Sep 1867.  He married MARGARET JANE (surname unknown) also born Manchester.
John's mother was Sarah Morrison b county Down (that's all I know about her) -- so I assume he had ties there & may have gone there -- or to Belfast.

Many thanks
