« on: Sunday 29 September 19 20:49 BST (UK)  »
Hello

I have a military record that my relate to my ancestor which lists his place of birth as Penygroes. Where may he have been baptised if this is the case? His religion was listed as Independent.

Are any of these records online or where could I find them?

Thanks

Caernarvonshire / Griffith Jones - Born c.1866 in Llanwnda
« on: Sunday 20 August 17 14:19 BST (UK)  »
Hi all

It feels like every year or so I come back here trying again to break down my brick wall with Griffith. I'm hoping a very kind & clever person on here might have more luck than me  ;D.

Griffith Jones was my GG Grandfather. He married Sarah Williams on 11th December 1885 in Register Office, Carnarvon. He was 18, she was 22. His residence at the time of marriage was Frondeg Rhostryfan. His father is listed as Griffith Jones, a labourer.

Once they were married, Griffith took Sarah's surname, although I don't know why. They had Jane (b. 7th Oct 1885 in Llandwrog), William (b. 12th May 1888 in Llandwrog) and Sarah Ann (b. 30th Aug 1891 in Aberdare). I've found the family on the 1891, 1901 and 1911 census. Griffith died in Aberdare on 21st June 1921, aged 55.

I would love to be able to work back from Griffith and find out about his ancestors but I'm drawing a blank. Does anyone have any ideas on where I could go next? I've looked through census records but can't seem to find anything that ties in, certainly not to a point where I could be sure that I'm on the right line.

Thanks in advance!

Wales / Deciphering & Translating Welsh Postcards
« on: Monday 05 December 16 16:37 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone

I hope this is the right place to post & that someone can help me.

I have a number of postcards from my Welsh great-grandmother's collection which I'm sure will hold a big key to my family history - only the handwriting is often difficult to read and not speaking Welsh myself makes it almost impossible.

Is anyone able to translate the attached postcard, written by my GG Grandmother to her daughter?

Thanks in advance!

Scotland / 1911 Scotland Census - Look up request
« on: Sunday 19 October 14 10:11 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I don't know if anyone can help me but I'm looking for Jesse Manley (b. 1863) on the 1911 census but believe he moved to Scotland around this time (Kirkcaldy, I think).
I don't have any other Scottish records that I need to check so I'm not keen on purchasing credits for ScotlandsPeople.
Would anyone with access to these records be able to look up Jesse Manley for me or is there anywhere else these records can be found?

Thanks

Glamorganshire / Aberdare Cemetery layout
« on: Sunday 28 September 14 11:18 BST (UK)  »
I have a grave reference for a burial in Aberdare old cemetery in the consecrated section. Having been there this morning, I've been unable to find any markers to give a clue of how to find the grave. Does anyone know how the layout works in this cemetery?

Canada Lookup Request / Canada Look Up
« on: Wednesday 15 August 12 21:15 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

My Great-Grand Aunt Lily Fry (b. 1888) married Bertie Bush (b. 1887) in Bristol in 1911 before travelling to Canada. I know Lily traveled there in 1912 but couldn't find her husband's details anywhere. From there, I've seen the 1916 census where they are both living in Manitoba with their infant son, Cecil. I don't have much knowledge of Canadian records to know what information would be available for look-up but I would love to find out more about their family.

My Grandfather told me (although some of his information needs to be taken with a grain of salt....) that they also had two more sons, Douglas and Reg, and a daughter, Florence, although their dates of birth and any more details aren't known. My Grandfather used to write to a descendant of theirs at one stage but lost touch a few years ago and I have no information on who this would be, but am desperate for information on their family to hopefully help me get back in touch with them at some stage.

I hope someone can help me with further information on them.

Thanks, Jen.

Caernarvonshire / Williams Family - Llanwnda/Llandwrog
« on: Tuesday 26 June 12 15:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi all. I'm new to the forums so please go easy on me  ;D

I'm stuck in my family history research at my G-G Grandfather, Griffith Williams who was born around 1867 in Llanwnda. I've traced him in census records from 1891 - 1911 when he moved to Aberdare instead. Unfortunately I don't know Caernarvonshire myself at all and am not sure on how to go about working out any more information about him.

He married a Sarah, born around 1864 in Llandwrog, somewhere around 1885 and they would have been married in Caernarvonshire but not sure where exactly.

They had three children - Jane (b. October 1885 in Llandwrog), William (b. September 1888 in Llandwrog) and Sarah Ann (b. 1892 in Aberdare).

I'd rather not buy marriage certificates trying to work out which is the correct one I need and unfortunately the children's names are pretty common and don't really help narrow down which birth certificate would be the correct one to buy either.

Does anyone have any suggestions of how to find any more about this family and where I could find the correct records?

Thanks

Jen
