Australia / McCabe... a long shot
« on: Wednesday 04 January 23 11:11 GMT (UK)  »
We are trying to find Pearl Hesba Elizabeth Ray,  b1905 Westport,  New  Zealand.  Aka Ettie McCabe
After giving birth to a daughter in 1923, who she leaves behind. She disappears.
Family lore has her marrying a James  McCabe  in 1929 and having three children, Audrey,  James and Micheal. Also that she went to Australia
There is no record of a marriage  here in New Zealand,  or any births for the children. No death record either
Her father George died in 1946 nz,  and she is mentioned in his obituary as Ettie McCabe.
We are nor 100% sure of anything after the 1923 birth.

George Kidd married Susannah Hilton 13 Feb 1864 Adelaide.

I am hoping there is a mention of his fathers name.

Susannah was born in Sussex in 1846 , the daughter of Robert Hilton and Harriet Elizabeth Fenn.

George Kidd was apparently born in 1844, cambridgeshire, England
Thanks in advance

Sussex / Lost family of Hilton's
« on: Saturday 31 July 10 06:16 BST (UK)  »
I have the family of Robert Hilton in census 1851 residing in Lancing Sussex, and then they disappear.

Robert Hilton 33 Coastguard b. Litlington Sussex
harriet 30 b. Yarmouth Norfolk
Richard 6 b, Littlehampton
susannah 5 b Littlehampton
William 3 b.Selsey
Joseph 2 b.Lancing

Susannah was in Adelaide, South Australia in 1867, married to George Kidd. There they had a daughter May Kidd in 1867, but I don't know if they married in Aussie or England, no record Freebdm.
I am wondering if the rest of her family went with her?

Susannah and George ended up in New Zealand, having a son Allan Kidd in 1874. 1876 dau daisy and 1878 a son Julian

Hoping someone might be researching them, and have a link.

Midlothian / Grace MacKinlay who are you? Help
« on: Monday 22 February 10 01:53 GMT (UK)  »
I have a baptism for my ggg grandmother Mary Sharp. baptised Liberton 11 Jun 1815 to parents John Sharp and Grace Mackinlay [FR1343]. She also gives these names as her parents on her marriage certificate

But for the life of me I can't find any further reference to Grace at all.
There doesn't appear to be any other children baptised to John and Grace, so possibly she died in child birth?.

I have hunted high and low under every name variation I could think of on SP.
No marriage for her and John in SP or the IGi.
Even seached the IGI for a Grace who married a MacKinlay but nothing....
John Sharp was born in Lasswade  in 1793 and his family lived in and around Liberton. So Grace was probably born around the same time but where?

The only lead I have is:
Mary named her first daughter "Margaret Tait Livingston". The name does not appear to come from the Livingston line that she married into.

Does anyone have any suggestions where to look next please?
TIA

Sussex Lookup Requests / Sussex Marriage Index - John Knight
« on: Saturday 03 January 09 21:11 GMT (UK)  »
Happy New Year everyone.

My NewsYears Resolution was NO MORE RESEARCH until I have tidied up my files, just shows I have no resolution at all, well I have started, but I don't know where to stick the children of this marriage so need a little help.

I have three 3 children, all baptised in Mayfield,
Elizabeth Rebecca Knight 1835
John Knight
Charles Knight both baptised same day in 1832
All three to parents John Knight and Sarah

By Census 1841 all three children are living with relatives,
John and Elizabeth are with Samuel and Elizabeth Brook (nee Chandler) in Mayfield.

Charles in with Elizabeth Avery (nee Brook) in 1841 in Mayfield

In 1851 Elizabeth is still with Elizabeth Brook, widow of Samuel and is described as her niece.

This should mean she is either the daughter of one of her husband's siblings or one of her own siblings. But I can't find the link.

So I am looking for a marriage pre 1832, possibly Mayfield for a John Knight to Sarah ?.

Nothing in the IGI to help.

Many thanks in advance.
Lynne

Australia Lookups completed / John MORGAN and Ellen FINNERTY, Winchelsea
« on: Saturday 15 November 08 19:17 GMT (UK)  »
John and Ellen married in  Chorlton medlock district Lancashire and came to Victoria on the Landsborugh in 1863 alone with two daughters Agnes and Mary Jane.

They settled in Winchelsea and had another eight children
John 1866, Alicia Jane 1867, Nicholas 1870, Elizabeth Emma 1872, Theresa 1873, Rosanna 1876, Hubert 1878, and Henry 1883. (All recorded as being born in Winchelsea)

Hubert went to New Zealand in the early 1900's. But have lost the rest of the family.

Nicholas possibly married Catherine Eason.

There are burial records for a John and Ellen Morgan in Geelong East Cemetery which I believe is just up the road from Winchelsea, can any one tell me if there is a cemetery in Winchesea before I order the wrong certificates.

Thanks in advance

Sussex / Samuel Brook/Elizabeth Chandler Warbleton/Mayfield
« on: Wednesday 02 April 08 07:58 BST (UK)  »
Is anybody reseaching this family?

Samuel Brook was baptised in Warbleton in 1771 the son of John Brook and Elizabeth ?.

Samuel married Elizabeth Chandler.
Known children; Mary, Thomas,Peter, John, Jesse and Sophia

This line of the Brook family confusingly married into my line of Cornwelll/Durrant's from Mayfield.

Samuels sister - Sarah Brook, married Robert Cornwell in 1789, their daughter Elizabeth married Thomas P Durrant, Thomas and Elizabeth had a son Thomas who married Sarah, Thomas and Sarah had a daughter Mary Hannah Durrant who married the above Jesse Brook. Then Thomas Durrant's widowed wife Sarah, married Jesse's older brother Thomas.

No wonder I have turned to the red wine.
Would love to hear from anyone who can add to the Brook, or should that be "maze"
