Glamorganshire / Edward Perry 1851c
« on: Thursday 19 September 13 15:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi i've found a possible 1851c at Cadoxton juxta Neath, for my great uncle edward perry, surname spelt as Per on the census. Aged 19 bn wiltshire.  He seems to be with a large group of farm workers, this page all wiltshire folk, another one of which is james giddins who later marries edward's sister rhoda. He was bn in charlton st peter, nr upavon wilts in 1832.

I can't find any later census records or welsh deaths that stand out, i just wondered if it was worth asking people with local info if there is anything else i could look at?  In all likelihood he couldn't write so there's no saying how he would spell his name. His other siblings have scattered all over the south of england and one in australia.

appreciate any help thanks

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / marriage index?
« on: Wednesday 18 September 13 12:59 BST (UK)  »
hi i'm struggling to find a marriage index for an alfred jacob hollis to someone with the maiden name wells.  I've had good old look around online and i'm not finding their index. I know they had a child jean hollis in nov 1911, and there are two possible other births with wells mmn, in the same district of S. Stoneham.  The alfred jacob hollis comes from jean's marriage cert as the father.  I'm expecting them to be in the portsmouth area. I will order jean's birth cert when i've got some spare cash but the marriage index would help for now.

i also had a look for a birth or marriage notice in the papers but again came up blank  :(
appreciate any help thanks

United States of America / emigrated to the US 1889
« on: Saturday 14 September 13 14:06 BST (UK)  »
Hi i found one of my relatives in the US from his bmd's, census and later naturalisation papers. It says his last place of residence was london which i know, and he moved at about 16 on the ship called the leerdam which the documents said left rotterdam and landed in new york on 06 apr 1889.   I wondered if there would be any passenger records or immigrant records from the ship, more to see if he went out there with any more of his family?

While i'm here can someone briefly explain the repeated naturalisation records they seemed to have to sign, did they have to fill a time limited document out? He's got one for 1910 and another for 1915, and he'd been there since 1889. He lived in Philadelphia if it helps.

appreciate any help thanks

World War One / US ww1 drafts
« on: Saturday 14 September 13 11:04 BST (UK)  »
i have a relative that emigrated to the US, and then with his son, signed up for the ww1 draft about 2 months before the end of the war.  It doesn't say anything about what they were going to be doing or if they were coming back to europe.  Are these forces drafts or something to do with the war effort in the US? Would there be any records i could trace?

appreciate any help thanks

London and Middlesex / Mary Perry chelsea parlourmaid
« on: Wednesday 11 September 13 20:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi i'm starting again looking for my great grandfathers sister, i followed a london marriage and chased the family to canada and scotland only to find on her death cert that the marriage details where just a giant coincidence, and she wasn't my mary at all  >:(

Mary Perry bn jun 1838 @ charlton nr pewsey, wilts
there are two censuses in wiltshire and then the 1861c in ashburnum house, chelsea where she is single, aged 23 and a parlourmaid.

I do know she had children as her fathers will in 1885 said that her children were to have her share, which may mean she is dead perhaps.  I'm not sure i can point to any location to help as her siblings split up quite well when they reach working age, the girls it seems coming to london.

appreciate any help
thanks

Wigtownshire / Campbell's in wigtownshire
« on: Tuesday 10 September 13 11:58 BST (UK)  »
Hi i've got my great grandfather's sister - Mary Perry marrying a Samuel Campbell in Marylebone middlesex in feb 1865 and from their census records i know they moved to scotland. the 1871 & 1881c say kirkmaiden, and the 1891 & 1901 say stoneykirk.  Sadly I'm not going to get time to complete this, so what i would like to do is try and find another scottish relation or tree from their line with the hope that it might interest them.  I can offer them two more perry ancestors up from mary in wiltshire  :)   The only one i've found to marry had 3 kids, two of which went to canada and the other died in flanders.  If not, this thread might be of use to someone in the future.  Their details are:

Mary Campbell nee Perry bn Charlton (nr Pewsey) Wiltshire  married 12 feb 1865 marylebone
Samuel Campbell bn Ireland bn 1833, marriage record said soldier, later censuses a labourer
I've got their censuses to 1901c but i don't know what happened after that.
Children:
John Campbell bn 05.12.1866 penninghame, 71c, 81c, no 91c, marries 19.6.1892 (i have the record) to Mary Coburn @ old luce. he is an ostler. their 1901c is in stirling.
John Coburn Campbell 1893-1917 died flanders, spouse dorothy v b Philp. (source??)
Mary Minlin Perry Campbell 1895-1970 married in 1915 in canada
William Campbell 1873  moved to canada 1924.

Samuel Mccredie Campbell 30.03.1869 penninghame, no 1871c, infant death / wrong family?
Mary Rebecca Campbell 12.9.1870 kirkmaiden, 71c & 1901c + daug mary Campbell, 1 mo, bbd?
William Campbell bn 16.02.1873 kirkmaiden, 81c,
Emma Campbell bn 1875 kirkmaiden, 81c, 91c in stoneykirk as serv
Caroline Campbell bn 1878 stoneykirk, 81c, 91c, 1901c as serv
Isabella Campbell bn 1880 kirkmaiden, 81c, 91c,

sorry it's a bit long. Mary Perry had 9 siblings some of which had large families so it would be nice to complete her and link up some more cousin's.

thanks n

Wiltshire / missing married couple
« on: Friday 06 September 13 14:37 BST (UK)  »
Hi i've got a walter and fanny perry married with no kids on the 1871c at St martin wiltshire which is salisbury i think. I should say that the census had them as Herry which might be a sign of the problem. I thought as they have fairly distinctive christian names they might be findable. I've pretty much checked everything off and there's no sign of them, and i've checked the wilts deaths. On that basis i'm guessing they may have emigrated or gone to the poorhouse where they may not be recorded by name. It could be really useful if they have emigrated, i have a cousin of his in NSW Aus and another in scotland. His censuses said he was an ag labourer.

walter perry bn jun 1842 @ charlton st peter wilts
fanny waters bn 1845 oct 1845 @ woodford wilts
married in salisbury may 1867.

appreciate any help thanks

Sussex / sussex birth or marriage maiden name
« on: Friday 06 September 13 14:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi i have a married couple in wilts censuses 1851 & 1861 and i'd like to try and find her maiden name. the wifes granddaughter is called martha ann turner perrior but she is illegitimate, so i'm not sure if the turner name is possibly the fathers or as i hope the grandmother's maiden name. I can't find the marriage of the couple to settle it.
he is william perrior (sometimes perrin) bn 1786 wylye wilts.
she is sarah martha perrior bn 1786 in sussex. the 1851c says north mundham, the 1861c says chichester.  They have their only child martha in wilts in 1826 so the marriage should be before then, i can find nothing on the wilts parish marriages for them so perhaps they got married in sussex?

appreciate any help thanks

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / southsea death 1905. obituary?
« on: Wednesday 04 September 13 22:47 BST (UK)  »
hi i'm just going back through some of the things missing from my tree, my good old great grandfather jacob perry (65) died on 28 nov 1905 at 57 francis ave, southsea.  When i look on the bna for hampshire papers they stop at 1900 ish.  Does anyone with hampshire experience have any idea where i might look for an obituary, i feel hopeful he would have had a line or two being a naval pensioner.  Do you know if there are later papers for 1905 but perhaps they haven't been digi'd?

appreciate any help thanks
