Dublin / Odd Female Name
« on: Friday 04 January 13 19:27 GMT (UK)  »
Before Christmas, I had the pleasure of finding some of our long-lost relatives in England.

However, Im left with more puzzles than before.
Margaret harding supposedly married Walter (Wat) Pender some time after 1911 Census - she is listed as a visitor on census night.

Her great (dont know how many) nephew remembers visiting them, but always insisted to his daughter that his aunts name was "Enoch". ::) ::)
When challenged on this he insisted that he knew his own aunts name (no further discussion)
Can anyone come up with a womans name which might have sounded like "Enoch" to a child??

Ive tried Monica and Edith, but cant find a connection, nor can I find a marriage cert for margaret and Walter, who incidentally never had any children (at least none who lived or were registered).

Does anyone know how I can match a name I found on the census for the above convent ( ::) with what I know of an ancestor??
I found a mary Harding listed as an inmate in the 1911 census, and it sort of ties in with what I think I know about Mary Anne Harding from Ballyedmonduff.
She had a son Hemnry in Rathdown Union workhouse in 1885, and as far as I can tell fell off the face of the earth.
I cant find a marriage cert or a death cert for her (mind you it would help if I knew whether she actually married).
The nearest Ive found is Mary Harding, aged 40, in 1911 - a discrepancy of just 2 years in age which would not have been unusual.
Many thanks for any help.
Also, Happy New Year to everyone - have'nt been on for ages due to family circumstances.

Meath / Walter Pender Meath/Glencullen/Nth Dublin
« on: Friday 26 October 12 19:58 BST (UK)  »
Hi Been away from puter for a while.

Not sure if this should be on Dublin or Meath board but here goes.

Looking for any information about the Pender family from Meath, particularly Walter.
He is mentioned on the 1901 census as living in Glencullen as a lodger with a Mrs Costelloe,
and then in the 1911 census in north Dublin.

The reason im interested in him is that in the 1911 census, he is listed as single, and he had two visitors that night
Margaret and martha harding (two sisters).

Now, it says on the census form that he was single, but on the 1901 census form he is listed as being married. I found a marriage in Co Meath for
a Walter Pender and Elizabeth Hyland.

Our newly found cousins say that as far as they know he married Margaret Harding (he was a good bit older than her)
but (a) I cant find any mention of a death cert for Elizabeth Pender and (b) I cant find a marriage cert for margaret harding.
Can anyone help??

Laois (Queens) / Plunkett and Mitchell families - Monequid
« on: Tuesday 11 September 12 15:26 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Is there anyone out there who can tell me how to get further than 1812 in the Rosenallis/Mountmellick records??

I got as far as George Plunkett, born in 1812 in Monequid/Cappalough.
He died in 1892, and was a blacksmith, as were most of the family.

He married Mary Bryan (Brien) in 1856 approx.

Cant trace his parents - only possibility I have come up with is an Owen Plunkett/Anne (unknown), with a further possible link to an Oliver Plunkett.

Georges son George married Catherine Mitchell, whose parents were William Mitchell and Margaret wright (at least thats where Ive ended up), and Margarets parents were John Wright and Julia Conroy.

Williams parents were Cornelius Mitchell and Margaret Conroy (?) - its possible there was a family connection i.e. cousins

Is anyone ouyt there related to this family??

Armed Forces / archibald allen - army court martial
« on: Monday 10 September 12 18:02 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Im new to this so I hope someone can help.

I found my great grandfathers service record on FindMy Past. His name was Archibald Allen, born in 1832/33 in Carlow, Ireland.
He served in India with the 4th Brigade Royal Artillery and was discharged in 1862.
It says on the records that he had 4 good servicew badges, yet it also says he was courtmartialled once.
The records are attached to the discharge papers, but you dont get to see them.  How can I find out why he was courtmartialled??

England / Harding Family from Glencullen, Dublin
« on: Tuesday 04 September 12 19:49 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I dont even know which section to post this in so please bear with me.

Im trying to trace the descendants of John (Jack) Harding, born 1918 in Dublin.
His mnother is believed to have been unmarried, name of Martha, father unknownb.
He had a brother George (my FIL) born in 1926, again father unknown.

Martha had an aunt, whom we have now discovered was in fact her mother, name of Elizabeth, born 1873, and known as Liz.
She also had a great uncle, Liz's brother, who was named William, known as Bill.
Again, Liz and Bill never married, but as I said, Liz had Martha, and also another daughter known as Bessie.
No-one in recent generations knew of bessie's existence.
Im desperately t4rying to ty up loose ends.
John (Jack) married a lady named Gladys, and had a daughter Carol and a daughter Cathy.
Jack worked as a groom, but all we know is that it was somewhere in the south of England.
Can anyone help??

Dublin / Archibald Allen from Carlow and Ballybrack
« on: Monday 03 September 12 21:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi
As Im on a roll here today, I'd like to ask for some more help

My great grandfather Archibald Allen (born carlow 1832/33) married Kate Byrne from Wicklow.
He died in Ballybrack and is buried in Deansgrange cemetary.
The problem is that we cant find a birth cert for him, or a marriage cert for him and Catherine (Kate)

It would have ben a mixed marriage, Archibald being CI and Kate RC.
I have birth certs for almost all of their children, and they seem to all have been baptised in Pro-Cathedral.
The only Archibald I can find for that date is listed as being the son of George Allen and Elizabeth?
The nearest Kate I can find was born in Hacketstown (which is now Carlow but was probably Wicklow ) in 1859.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Ireland / Hardings from Glencullen/Kilternan/Ballyedmonduff
« on: Monday 03 September 12 15:05 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Im new - only signed up today.
Ive made fairly good progress with the family but have trouble in tracing my late FIL family.
There is a Elizabeth Harding on the 1911 census, working for the Tottenhams in Ballycurry Demesne.
As far as I can figure out, she would be my FIL aunt, although we think he didnt know of her existence.
How can I find what happened to her?
Ive tried IFHF, but no records.
Cant find anything on a passenger list, and cant find a death cert.
Please help.
Maggie
